Evaluation of Fracture Parameters for Cracks in Coupled Thermoelasticity for Functionally Graded Materials

open access: yesJournal of Mechanical Engineering, 2015
The finite element method (FEM) is developed for coupled thermoelastic crack problems if material properties are continuously varying. The weak form is utilized to derive the FEM equations. In conventional fracture theories the state of stress and strain

Role of Histidine‐Containing Peptoids in Accelerating the Kinetics of Calcite Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amphiphilic histidine‐containing peptoids mimic carbonic anhydrase (CA) to accelerate calcite step growth. In the presence of Zn2+, they promote the deprotonation of HCO3−, the desolvation of Ca2+, and the reorganization of interfacial hydration layers, thereby reducing the activation barrier for calcite growth.

Tip Crack Imaging on Transparent Materials by Digital Holographic Microscopy

open access: yesJournal of Imaging, 2019
With this study, we propose a method to image the tip crack on transparent materials by using digital holographic microscopy. More specifically, an optical system based on Mach−Zehnder interference along with an inverted microscopy (Olympus CKX53 ...

Ionic‐Electronic Hydrogel‐Liquid Metal Composite Bilayer with Tissue‐Adaptive and Adhesive Properties for Closed‐Loop Neuroprosthetic System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hydrogel–liquid metal composite peripheral nerve interface (HLB‐PNI) combines electrically durable electrodes and tissue‐adhesive hydrogel for tissue‐adaptive implantation. In nerve‐injured rats, it enables the diagnosis of sensory‐motor connectivity via stimulation and neural signal recording.

THE DECELERATION AND ACCELERATION OF CRACK PROPAGATION FOLLOWING TENSILE OVERLOAD AND HOLD TIME [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Science and Technology, 2018
The effect of the hold time of a tensile overload on crack propagation behaviours following the overload was investigated. In the study, the crack propagation behaviour after the overload was observed under constant amplitude load with stress ratio zero ...

Laser‐Microscribed Glass Enables Surface‐Microfluidics‐Facilitated, Affordable, Rapid Cancer Diagnosis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A transparent, laser‐microscribed glass platform enables cancer diagnosis within 1 h—much faster than histology, which takes days, and free from the chemical or contrast risks of MRI or CT scans. The antibody‐functionalized rough glass surface captures viable cancer cells directly from suspension, allowing instant optical readout and offering a rapid ...
