Crack-craze opening profiles near a crack tip in a polytetrafluoroethylene

open access: yes, 2012
The crack opening and craze profiles near a crack tip in a polytetrafluoroethylene have been experimentally investigated. A double-edge-crack plate specimen under uniaxial tensile load was used in the experiment and the experimental procedure was ...

Elephant‐Skin‐Inspired Porous Cementitious Tiles with Programmable Crack Networks for Passive Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Elephant‐skin‐inspired crack networks are programmed in porous diatomaceous earth (DE)‐cement composites using substrate‐guided, stress‐concentration induced fracture. The resulting crack lattices act as capillary conduits that redistribute water, while the porous matrix stores moisture.

Finite-element analysis of initiation, stable crack growth and instability using a crack-tip-opening displacement criterion

open access: yes, 1982
An elastic-plastic (incremental and small strain) finite element analysis was used with a crack growth criterion to study crack initiation, stable crack growth, and instability under monotonic loading to failure of metallic materials.

Mixed-Mode Crack Tip Parameters Characterization from Image Correlation Technique [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper focuses on the application of the digital image correlation (DIC) technique to determine the mixed-modes stress intensity factors (SIF), and stress opening intensity factors (SOIF) for cracks in isotropic media.

Laser‐Assisted Phase Engineering of 2D MoS2 for Efficient Solution‐Processed Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Here, local laser‐assisted phase transition from solution‐processed phase‐pure 1T′ to 2H MoS2 is shown to critically depend on the irradiation atmosphere. While processing in air leads to damaged insulating regions, inert conditions yield semiconducting 2H domains, enabling direct field‐effect transistor patterning with optimized lateral 1T′‐2H MoS2 ...

Conductive Hydrogels for Exogenous Sensing and Cell Fate Control

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We engineer electrically conductive hydrogels by combining sulfated glycosaminoglycans with semiconducting polymers. These hydrogels bind bioactive proteins, including growth factors, whose release or retention can be modulated by low‐voltage stimulation. The hydrogels are also integrated as 3D channels in organic electrochemical transistors as part of
