Experimental and Numerical Analysis of Fracture in 41Cr4 Steel – Issues of the Stationary Cracks

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 2018
This paper analyzes the process of fracture in 41Cr4 steel on the basis of experimental and numerical data obtained for non-propagating cracks. The author’s previous and latest experimental results were used to determine the apparent crack initiation ...

Determination of CTOD C in Fibre Metal Laminates by ASTM and Schwalbe Methods [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2002
Fibre Metal Laminates (FMLs) have arisen as a demand of the aeronautical industry to use thin sheets with high resistance to fatigue crack growth, high damage tolerance, corrosion resistance and high specific strength.

Determination of Mode I Fracture Toughness of Cortical Human Bone using the DCB Test [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The fracture behaviour of human cortical bone was analysed considering a miniaturized version of theDouble Cantilever Beam (DCB) test. A specific data reduction scheme based on crack equivalentconcept was used to obtain the resistance curves.

Phase Field Modeling of Fracture and Stress Induced Phase Transitions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We present a continuum theory to describe elastically induced phase transitions between coherent solid phases. In the limit of vanishing elastic constants in one of the phases, the model can be used to describe fracture on the basis of the late stage of ...

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

High-cycle fatigue fracture of structural materials under elastic-plastic deformation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The developed method of recording current values of crack tip opening displacement made it possible to reliably establish the instant when the “material” contact between the borders of a fatigue crack near its tip in a tension half-cycle ceases and the ...
