Crack Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD) Testing Method for Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ) Toughness of Steel Welds with Particular Reference to Local Inhomogeneity

1994
In the multi-passed weld heat-affected zone (HAZ), the occurrence of mechanical and metallurgical heterogeneity is inevitable. For the fracture toughness evaluation of the steel weld HAZ, the effect of the inhomogeneity shall be considered, particularly in relation to determination of the appropriate testing procedures such as the extraction of test ...

Crack Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD) Toughness Evaluation by ASTM E 1290 and BS5762: A Comparative Analysis

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 1992
Abstract ASTM Committee E-24 on Fracture has recently standardized the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) measurement method. Three major differences between the ASTM E 1290-89 method and British Standard BS5762:1979 are outlined, and the influence of these differences on the critical crack initiation CTOD value is studied.

Level-3 Crack-Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD) Assessment of Welded Wide Plates in Bending—Effect of Overmatching Weld Metal

1993
Butt-welded wide plates with semi-elliptical surface cracks along the fusion line were tested in four-point bending. The material was normalized low-carbon microalloyed steel that conformed to offshore specifications. The testing temperature was in the range of -40° to 0°C.

The Measurement of Critical Values of Crack Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD) and J on Parent Steels and Weldments for Use in Fracture Assessments

1985
Following a brief description of the role of elastic-plastic fracture mechanics for fitness for purpose assessments of ferritic materials, current fracture toughness testing standards are reviewed.

Prediction of Strength Mis-match Welded Joints Failure by Using of Crack Driving Force and Crack Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD) Resistance Curve

Strojarstvo : časopis za teoriju i praksu u strojarstvu, 2000
Prediction of failure of fracture toughness specimen is possible to estimate by using crack driving force and d5(CTOD)-R resistance curve of material. Accuracy of numerically determinated points on the curve of crack driving force depends on numerical model and description of mechanical properties of material.

Crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) in single edge notched bend (SEN(B))

2018
This thesis investigates the quantity Crack Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD) as a means to assess fracture toughness when measured in the Single Edge Notched Bend (SENB) specimen setup. A particular objective is to assess the effectiveness of the test when used for high strain-hardening materials (e.g. stainless steels).
