Amyloidogenic Peptide Fragments Designed From Bacterial Collagen‐like Proteins Form Hydrogel
This study identified amyloidogenic sequence motifs in bacterial collagen‐like proteins and exploited these to design peptides that self‐assemble into β‐sheet fibers and form hydrogels. One hydrogel supported healthy fibroblast growth, showing promise for biocompatible materials. Our work demonstrates that bacterial sequences can be harnessed to create

Difracción de rayos X y difracción de neutrones en estudios de fatiga y fractura de materiales [PDF]
Conferencia invitada de Joseph F KelleherThe fatigue behaviour of polycrystalline metals is often studied through crack propagation analysis [1,2]. Nevertheless, understanding the mechanical processes that take place right at the crack tip [3,4] would ...

Elevated-temperature impact toughness of Mg–(Gd, Y)–Zr alloy [PDF]
The Charpy impact results for Mg–10Gd–3Y–0.5Zr and Mg–11Y–5Gd–2Zn–0.5Zr alloys at various temperatures showed that Mg–10Gd–3Y–0.5Zr was more sensitive to temperature. The increase in impact toughness with temperature was related to the blunt crack-tip at

On Crack Closure and Crack Tip Shielding During Fatigue Crack Growth
Fatigue crack growth can be strongly influenced by crack closure, i. e., the contacting of the opposing faces of a fatigue crack above the minimum load in a loading cycle. This crack closure shields the crack tip from the full stress field, but different views are held regarding the extent of this shielding.

Engineering Strategies for Stable and Long‐Life Alkaline Zinc‐Based Flow Batteries
Alkaline zinc‐based flow batteries face persistent challenges from unstable zinc deposition, including dendrite growth, passivation, corrosion, and hydrogen evolution, which severely limit cycling stability. Current research addresses these issues through coordinated electrode structuring, electrolyte regulation, and membrane design to control zinc ...

A hydrogel with dynamic cross‐links was formed by cross‐linking hyaluronic acid with curcumin‐preloaded, phenylboronic acid‐modified poly(amidoamine) dendrimers. This hydrogel exhibited excellent injectability and self‐healing ability, enabling controlled Cur release in response to low pH, high reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, or mechanical ...

Fatigue crack propagation in microcapsule toughened epoxy [PDF]
The addition of liquid-filled urea-formaldehyde (UF) microcapsules to an epoxy matrix leads to significant reduction in fatigue crack growth rate and corresponding increase in fatigue life.
