A Two‐Stage Optimization Model for Multiple‐Crane Service Schedules Problem

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Scheduling tower crane movements is essential in a large construction site where multiple cranes are deployed. Efficient planning can avoid potential crane collisions, reduce construction duration, and save energy consumption. The multiple‐crane service schedules problem (MCSSP) is a classic combinatorial problem.

Intelligent Construction for Open‐Cut Tunnel: Insight From Mobile On‐Site Factory Method (MOFM)

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Conventional open‐cut tunnel construction is often characterized by low levels of automation, poor interprocess coordination, and limited overall efficiency. To address these challenges, this study introduces the integrated mobile on‐site factory method (MOFM), applied in Section 6 of the Xiong’an underground segment of the Xiong’an‐Xinzhou High‐Speed ...

Integration of IoT and machine learning for enhancing physiological workload management of tunnel construction workers

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 25, Page 4378-4396, 20 October 2025.
Abstract Occupational accidents caused by heavy physical labor remain common among construction workers. Although recent studies have attempted to combine wearable devices with artificial intelligence technology for workload monitoring, several limitations remain: Devices are difficult to deploy on‐site, laboratory‐based studies lack on‐site ...

A Multi‐Mode Analytical Frequency Modulation Input‐Shaping Control

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, Volume 5, Issue 3, Page 415-425, September 2025.
ABSTRACT In rest‐to‐rest maneuvers, input shapers like the double step (DS), zero vibration (ZV), and zero vibration derivative (ZVD) are widely utilized to eliminate residual vibrations in single‐mode systems. These shapers can be used to eliminate residual oscillations in multimode systems, given that the higher frequencies are odd multiples of the ...

Sustaining Decarbonisation: Energy Storage, Green Extractivism, and the Future of Mining

open access: yesAntipode, Volume 57, Issue 4, Page 1259-1279, July 2025.
Abstract Within the context of the so‐called green energy transition, the mining industry has successfully repositioned itself as a facilitator of, rather than an impediment to, a sustainable future. Underlying the success of this claim is a discourse of sustainability that, on the one hand, equates sustainability with decarbonisation and, on the other

Improving Circular Path Control Using Extended State Observers for an Industrial Overhead Crane

open access: yesAdvanced Control for Applications, Volume 7, Issue 1, March 2025.
ABSTRACT In industrial overhead cranes, inverters and motors are used to control motor position, velocity, and acceleration. However, higher‐order derivatives depend on load characteristics, leading to inconsistent jerk profiles and deviations in circular path. Payload sway further contributes to path deviation, and although sway suppression techniques

Future Energy Technology for Nonroad Mobile Machines

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, Volume 6, Issue 3, March 2025.
Greenhouse gases emissions reduction in the energy and transportation systems is extremely important, also for nonroad mobile machines (NRMM). This study provides an overview of future energy technology and business factors for NRMM, considering different geographical areas, various energy sources, and energy delivery solutions.

Model‐Based Method for Local Monitoring of Steel Structures

open access: yesApplied Research, Volume 4, Issue 1, February 2025.
This paper presents a new method for monitoring steel structures for fatigue cracks. By combining measurements from strain gauges (SG) with structural simulations, it is possible to detect the position and length of cracks in critical areas, which is supported by experimental results.
