Dynamic Force‐Shaped Input Control With Adjustable Maneuvering Time for Payload Transportation Systems

open access: yesJournal of Control Science and Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
This work presents a novel dynamic input‐shaping methodology for crane control. A mathematical model is developed for a single pendulum system driven by a crane trolley, incorporating both kinetic friction and applied force dynamics. The force input function is specifically designed to achieve rest‐to‐rest payload transfer while meeting prescribed ...

New York State Climate Impacts Assessment Chapter 09: Transportation

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Volume 1542, Issue 1, Page 501-560, December 2024.
Abstract The transportation sector's functionality depends on climate conditions. Many New York State residents, communities, businesses, and institutions have already experienced transportation‐related climate change impacts, and many more will experience impacts in the future.

Optimizing multiple equipment scheduling for U‐shaped automated container terminals considering loading and unloading operations

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 39, Issue 20, Page 3103-3124, 15 October 2024.
Abstract U‐shaped automated container terminals (ACTs) represent a strategic design in port infrastructure that facilitates simultaneous loading and unloading operations. This paper addresses the challenges of scheduling multiple types of equipment, such as dual trolley quay cranes (DTQCs), automated guided vehicles (AGVs), double cantilever rail ...

Fuzzy sliding mode control of an offshore container crane [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
© 2017 A fuzzy sliding mode control strategy for offshore container cranes is investigated in this study. The offshore operations of loading and unloading containers are performed between a mega container ship, called the mother ship, and a smaller ship,

Closed‐loop stability analysis of deep reinforcement learning controlled systems with experimental validation

open access: yesIET Control Theory &Applications, Volume 18, Issue 13, Page 1649-1668, September 2024.
This research investigates the closed‐loop stability of dynamic systems controlled by deep reinforcement learning agents through Lyapunov analysis and a linear‐quadratic polynomial approximation of the trained agent. The study validates its approach with simulations and experiments on real‐world hardware, confirming the deep reinforcement learning's ...

Vision based intelligent traffic light management system using Faster R‐CNN

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, Volume 9, Issue 4, Page 932-947, August 2024.
Abstract Transportation systems primarily depend on vehicular flow on roads. Developed countries have shifted towards automated signal control, which manages and updates signal synchronisation automatically. In contrast, traffic in underdeveloped countries is mainly governed by manual traffic light systems.

Developer-Planner Interaction in Transportation and Land Use Sustainability, MTI Report 01-21 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
This study argues that significant unmet demand exists for alternatives to conventional auto-oriented development; and further that planning interventions that restrict densities and land use mixing in developed areas are a major reason that this demand ...

Improved method for positioning crane grab boom corner points using Hough transform and k‐means clustering

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 6, Issue 4, April 2024.
The accuracy of the calculated angular coordinates is at the pixel level. The algorithm in this article has the best detection performance under strong complementary light conditions. The average detection error within 0–2 pixels accounts for 97.1%, and the recognition accuracy is 98.6%.

Comparative analysis on the performance of different types of input‐ and command‐shaping controllers in minimizing payload residual vibration of an overhead crane with an inclined supporting track

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 22-33, March 2024.
Abstract Reducing the effects of external disturbance on overhead crane systems is crucial, as they can impair the controller performance and cause excessive vibrations or oscillations of the payloads. One such external disturbance is the inclination of the supporting track of the crane trolley, which causes the system dynamics model to change. An open‐
