Multifunctional Crushing and Piezoresistive Self‐Sensing in Conductive Epoxy/CNT‐Coated Polyetherimide TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 11, 3 June 2026.
This study reports lightweight polyetherimide triply periodic minimal surfaces lattices coated with carbon nanotube‐reinforced epoxy that combine mechanical robustness with self‐sensing. The conformal coating enhances stiffness, strength and energy absorption while enabling reliable strain monitoring.

Design and Optimization of Floor Layers in Carbon Fiber Composites for Body‐in‐White Materials

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 6, June 2026.
The PSO‐BFO‐optimized partitioned carbon fiber mid‐floor achieves a 46.7% weight reduction and significantly improves the bending and torsional stiffness and modal performance of the body‐in‐white. ABSTRACT To improve the performance of the body‐in‐white (BIW) and achieve automotive lightweighting, a balanced approach across materials, techniques, and ...

Ultrahigh Stiffness and Energy Absorption Properties of Isotropic Metallic Closed Cell Microlattices

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 35, 23 June 2026.
True closed cell microlattices without holes are fabricated for the first time using a novel Laser Sheet Fusion additive manufacturing technique. These microlattices exhibited isotropy in stiffness and surprisingly, strength and plasticity as well, despite orientation‐dependent failure mechanisms. Furthermore, material work hardening is shown to be key

Image‐Modulated Implicit‐Field Design of Graded Re‐Entrant Triply Periodical Minimal Surface With Stabilised Auxetic Response

open access: yesphysica status solidi (b), Volume 263, Issue 5, May 2026.
This study introduces functionally graded auxetic TPMS metamaterials designed to stabilise negative Poisson’s ratio behaviour at large strains. By suppressing out‐of‐plane buckling and promoting sequential crushing, these graded architectures maintain predictable deformation paths and enhanced stability compared with uniform designs.

Crashworthiness Simulations with DYNA3D [PDF]

open access: yesTransportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 1996
Current progress in parallel algorithm research and applications in vehicle crash simulation is described for the explicit, finite-element algorithms in DYNA3D. Two challenging algorithm research problems are addressed: problem partitioning methods and parallel algorithms for contact at material interfaces.

Natural Fiber Composites Under Dynamic Loading: A Comprehensive Review of Mechanical Performance and Structural Integrity

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 4, April 2026.
This review consolidates insights from recent studies on the dynamic mechanical behavior and structural integrity of NFCs under conditions such as impact, fatigue, vibration, and strain‐rate effects. The review critically examines how fiber type, matrix selection, fiber‐matrix interface treatments, hybridization strategies, and environmental aging ...

Engineering Deformation and Failure in Diamond Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Lattices via 3D Wall‐Thickness Grading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 5, 4 March 2026.
The work demonstrates that strategic wall‐thickness grading in diamond triply periodic minimal surface lattices enables precise tuning of deformation and failure behavior under compression. Different gradation patterns guide how and where the structure collapses, improving energy absorption or promoting controlled brittle failure.

Rib‐Reinforced Ultralight and Ultra‐Strong Shell Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 17, 23 March 2026.
This study thoroughly reveals the relation between the curvature and stress direction of triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) thin shell lattices and proposes a novel rib reinforcement design strategy to incorporate ribs along the line of asymptotes (LOA) and the line of principal curvatures (LOC) to enhance the strength of ultralight TPMS shell ...
