Microscale Mapping of Fiber Strain and Damage in Composite Wrinkled Laminates Using Computed Tomography Assisted Wide‐Angle X‐Ray Scattering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study combines full‐field tomography with diffraction mapping to quantify radial (ε002$\varepsilon _{002}$) and axial (ε100$\varepsilon _{100}$) lattice strain in wrinkled carbon‐fiber specimens for the first time. Radial microstrain gradients (−14.5 µεMPa$\varepsilon \mathrm{MPa}$−1) are found to signal damage‐prone zones ahead of failure, which ...

An Implanted Tooth That Can Feel

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To endow the implanted tooth with masticatory perception, herein we demonstrate that a 3D‐printed piezoelectric‐core/robust‐sheath implanted tooth can rebuild the sensing feedback, serving as “mechanoreceptors” in converting the mechanical chewing force to electrical signals, and up to brain through surrounding alveolar nerve system.

Use of strainrange partitioning to predict high temperature low-cycle fatigue life [PDF]

open access: yes
The fundamental concepts of the strainrange partitioning approach to high temperature, low low-cycle fatigue are reviewed. Procedures are presented by which the partitioned strainrange versus life relationships for any material can be generated ...

Hierarchical Artificial Muscle with Nonlinear Elasticity for Antagonistic and Cyclic Robotics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We construct hierarchical muscles by plying nylon fibers around a heating wire. The hierarchical muscle shows a J‐shaped passive curve, which shows benefit in antagonistic muscle pair and work accumulation mechanism. We also develop a computational, first‐principle model to understand the physics of both active actuation stroke and passive J‐curve ...

Life prediction of materials exposed to monotonic and cyclic loading: A new technology survey [PDF]

open access: yes
Reviewed and evaluated technical abstracts for about 100 significant documents are reported relating primarily to life prediction for structural materials exposed to monotonic and cyclic loading, particularly in elevated temperature environments.

AI‐Assisted Self‐Powered Wearable Dual‐Mode Sensor With TENG and Stretchable Optical Fiber for Neurological Disorder Diagnostics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This manuscript presents the WDMS platform, an AI‐assisted, self‐powered wearable dual‐mode sensor for tele‐neurology. It integrates a contact–separation TENG insole with stretchable polyurethane optical‐fiber strain sensors to synchronously track plantar pressure and lower‐limb muscle deformation.
