LC-MS-assisted metabolomic profiling of the Red Sea-derived brown algae Sargassum cinereum “Sargassaceae” dereplicated eleven compounds 1–11. Further phytochemical investigation afforded two new aryl cresol 12–13, along with eight known compounds 14–21 ...

Pathways for the degradation of m-cresol and p-cresol by Pseudomonas putida [PDF]
A comparison of the oxidation rates of various compounds by whole cells of Pseudomonas putida 3, 5 indicated that m-cresol is metabolized by oxidation to 3-hydroxybenzoate followed by hydroxylation to gentisate, the ring-fission substrate, when grown with 3, 5-xylenol.

Thermal reactivities of catechols/pyrogallols and cresols/xylenols as lignin pyrolysis intermediates [PDF]
Thermal reactivities of lignin pyrolysis intermediates, catechols/pyrogallols (O-CH3 homolysis products) and cresols/xylenols (OCH3 rearrangement products), were studied in a closed ampoule reactor (N2/600 °C/40–600 s) to understand their roles in the ...

Concerted Effects of Substituents in the Reaction of •OH Radicals with Aromatics: The Cresols [PDF]
The concerted effects of hydroxyl and methyl substituents in controlling the site of •OH radical attack on aromatics in aqueous solutions are explored using the cresols as typical examples.

Synthesis of cresols and xylenols from phenol and methanol [PDF]
This report is the first of two reports that concern the manufacture of the same chemicals using two processes -- a conventional catalytic process and a solar photothermal catalytic process -- to determine the relative process economics. The results of a

Development of methods based on low-temperature partitioning (LTP) for monitoring cresols and chlorophenols in sewage sludge, soil, and water in column leaching [PDF]
Cresols and chlorophenols are chemical contaminants that are potentially toxic to humans and can be found in sewage sludge. These chemical contaminants can migrate into the sludge-soil-water system when sludge is used as a conditioner for agricultural ...

Catalytic ozonation of three isomeric cresols in the presence of NaCl with nano-mesoporous beta-molecular sieves [PDF]
Catalytic ozonation is one suitable method to efficiently remove pollutants from refractory wastewater which if treated improperly could cause the severe contamination of surface and underground water. In this study, nano-mesoporous beta-molecular sieves
