Multi-scale evaluation of crevice corrosion behavior in two lean duplex stainless steels: from initiation to propagation

open access: yesCorrosion Communications
This paper evaluates crevice corrosion behavior of lean duplex stainless steels (DSS) 2002 and 2101 using refined methods. DSS 2002 exhibits lower critical conditions, while DSS 2101 exhibits faster propagation.

Adherence of Carbon Steel Rust on the Corrosion of an Austenitic Stainless Steel Bolt in Marine Atmosphere

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2014
Stainless steel fasteners can fail as a result of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in coastal atmosphere. In order to have a better understanding of the development of stainless steel fasteners’ SCC in marine atmospheric, the corrosion electrochemistry ...

Microfabrication of Crevice Corrosion Samples

open access: yes, 2000
A major challenge in developing computer models for crevice corrosion lies in fabricating appropriate experimental crevice samples. The geometry and dimensions of these samples must be controlled to a high order of precision in order to be amenable for ...

Defect Evolution and Mechanical Performance of Fused Filament Fabrication‐Manufactured 17‐4PH Stainless Steel Revealed by X‐Ray Computed Tomography

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography reveals how process‐induced defects evolve from green to sintered states in Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF)‐manufactured 17‐4PH stainless steel. Internal porosity, weakest cross‐sections, and fracture locations show strong correlation with tensile performance, demonstrating the potential of computed tomography (CT)‐based ...

Role of crevice size induced microenvironment variation within the gap in initiating crevice corrosion of 201 stainless steel

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials
The effects of the real-time changes in the microenvironment within the crevice caused by the change in crevice size on the induction of crevice corrosion of 201 stainless steel (201-SS) in 1 M (pH = 4.00) NaCl solution were evaluated using conventional ...

Analysis of corrosion damage in a boiler made of AISI 304L stainless steel

open access: yesZaštita Materijala, 2014
The corrosion damage near the welded joint in the boiler of AISI 304L stainless steel was analysed. During welding, heat tint was formed near the weld on the inner surface of the boiler, because shielded gas was not applied.

Electrified Damage in Motion Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The electrified damage in motion systems is a fundamental framework presenting the degradation pathway arising from the coupling of electrical energy transport with mechanical contact and interfacial chemistry. The framework positions electrified damage as a distinct degradation regime with unique characteristic surface morphologies and failures of ...

Influence of Scan Strategies in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion on Solidification, Microstructure, and High‐Temperature Compressive Properties of γ′‐Strengthened Inconel 738LC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Experiments and thermophysical simulations were conducted to investigate the electron beam powder bed fusion electron beam (PBF‐EB/M) process for the γ′‐strengthened nickel‐based superalloy Inconel 738LC. The results demonstrate the impact of process‐induced microstructural variations on high‐temperature mechanical behavior, providing a basis for ...
