A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Self-field effects upon the critical current density of flat superconducting strips

open access: yes, 2004
We develop a general theory to account self-consistently for self-field effects upon the average transport critical current density Jc of a flat type-II superconducting strip in the mixed state when the bulk pinning is characterized by a field-dependent ...

Current-driven skyrmion Depinning in Magnetic Granular Films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We consider current-driven motion of magnetic skyrmions in granular magnetic films. The study uses micromagnetic modeling and phenomenological analysis based on the Thiele formalism.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Influence of vortex-vortex interaction on critical currents across low-angle grain boundaries in YBa2Cu3O7-delta thin films

open access: yes, 2000
Low-angle grain boundaries with misorientation angles theta < 5 degrees in optimally doped thin films of YBCO are investigated by magnetooptical imaging.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Low-temperature Synthesis of FeTe0.5Se0.5 Polycrystals with a High Transport Critical Current Density

open access: yes, 2011
We have prepared high-quality polycrystalline FeTe0.5Se0.5 at temperature as low as 550{\deg}C. The transport critical current density evaluated by the current-voltage characteristics is over 700 A/cm2 at 4.2 K under zero field, which is several times ...

The Influence of Sintering Temperature on the Transport Properties of GdBa2Cu3O7 Superconductor Prepared from Nano-Powders via the Co-Precipitation Method

open access: yesInorganics
This study examines the influence of sintering temperature on the structural and transport properties of GdBa2Cu3O7 (Gd123) superconductors prepared from nano-sized precursors via the co-precipitation method. The metal-oxalate precursor (average particle
