The Data Big Bang and the Expanding Digital Universe: High-Dimensional, Complex and Massive Data Sets in an Inflationary Epoch

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, 2010
Recent and forthcoming advances in instrumentation, and giant new surveys, are creating astronomical data sets that are not amenable to the methods of analysis familiar to astronomers.

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Transforming Urban Façade Condition Assessments with Semantic Data Visualizations and 3D Spatial Layouts from BIMs

open access: yesBuildings
Safety inspection of building façades in urban settings is critical for public safety, as many incidents/accidents frequently occur due to falls from façades.

Developing a critical care visualization touch panel system to support rapid and accurate data interpretation

open access: yes, 2023
AbstractPurpose Critical care patients require constant monitoring of their vital signs and test results; however, gathering these data can be challenging. However, studies have indicated that visualization dashboards can enhance situational awareness by streamlining data collection, reducing difficulties, and minimizing errors. Therefore, we developed

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Transparent machine learning for crimp force monitoring using phase-based SHAP explanations

open access: yesIndustrial Artificial Intelligence
Ensuring consistent product quality in modern manufacturing is crucial, particularly in safety-critical applications. Conventional quality control approaches rely on manually defined features and lack adaptability to the complexity and variability ...

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

Life After Visualization

open access: yesDIID
The article examines two problems that emerge at the intersection of data collection, processing and visualization with participatory public inquiries. In these contexts, the use of data visualization makes it possibile to represent (part of) phenomena ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.
