The Furosemide Stress Test: A Dynamic Tool for Predicting Acute Kidney Injury Progression in Critical Care Medicine

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Medicine
Acute kidney injury (AKI) remains a significant challenge in critical care medicine, affecting up to 50% of intensive care unit patients with substantial mortality rates. While traditional approaches to AKI assessment rely on static measurements like serum creatinine and urine output, the furosemide stress test (FST) has emerged as a dynamic functional

Dynamic Behaviors of Couple Stress Quadrilateral Thick Microplates within a Refined DQFE Framework

open access: yes
This study proposes a novel refined differential quadrature finite element (DQFE) framework for the size-dependent dynamic analysis of thick quadrilateral microplates, incorporating couple-stress effect and two kinematic variables.

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Differential stress responses of immunoisolated human islets embedded in pancreatic extracellular matrix under static and free-fall dynamic conditions

open access: yesJournal of Tissue Engineering
Pancreatic islet transplantation offers great promise for the treatment of type 1 diabetes, yet the functional decline of islets after isolation remains a major obstacle.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Self-organised dynamics beyond scaling of avalanches: Cyclic stress fluctuations in critical sandpiles

open access: yes
Recognising changes in collective dynamics in complex systems is essential for predicting potential events and their development. Possessing intrinsic attractors with laws associated with scale invariance, self-organised critical dynamics represent a suitable example for quantitatively studying changes in collective behaviour.

Assessment of residual stress using thermoelastic stress analysis

open access: yes, 2011
The work described in this thesis considers the application of thermoelastic stress analysis (TSA) to theassessment of residual stresses in metallic materials. Residual stresses exist within almost all engineeringcomponents and structures.

ESR1 methylation and ESR1 mutations in circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and paired plasma‐cfDNA of advanced breast cancer patients: A feasibility proof‐of‐concept study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and plasma cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) were analyzed to detect ESR1 mutations and methylation in patients with advanced breast cancer. CTC‐derived DNA showed higher sensitivity for mutation detection and revealed complementary genetic and epigenetic alterations, highlighting the added value of CTC analysis for understanding ...

The financial stress index: identification of systemic risk conditions [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper develops a financial stress index for the United States, the Cleveland Financial Stress Index (CFSI), which provides a continuous signal of financial stress and broad coverage of the areas that could indicate it.

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...
