Comprehensive tests on Hangzhou intact soft clay were performed, which were used to obtain the soils’ critical response to undrained dynamic stress paths under different combinations of principal stress orientation. The different combinations included cyclic principal stress rotation (CPSR for short), cyclic shear with abrupt change of principal stress

Dynamic collapse of critically stressed isotropic and composite cylinders
Communications in Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1999Summary: The study is concerned with the dynamic collapse of cantilever isotropic and composite cylinders. The cylinders are initially subjected to critical compressive loads at the free edge. A small increase in these critical loads is then dynamically applied in the form of a sinusoidal excitation, using the first natural frequency of the system. The

Near-critical behavior of the dynamic stress-optical coefficient in liquid crystalline elastomers
Macromolecules, 1993Dynamic stress-optical measurements on liquid crystalline elastomers with different crosslinking densities have been carried out in the isotropic phase. The appearance of two relaxation processes in the spectra is probably due to the side-on attachment of the spacers to the mesogenic groups. The relaxation frequencies and the relaxation strength of the

Time distribution of stress drops, critical strain and crossover in the dynamics of jerky flow
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2003Abstract The distribution in time of stress drops in the jerky flow of several Al–Mg alloys is investigated in velocity controlled tensile tests, in relation with the crossover from hopping to propagating bands. The distribution evolves from randomness for static bands to increasing regularity for hopping bands.

Westerly wind bursts (WWBs)—brief but strong westerly wind anomalies in the equatorial Pacific—play an important role in El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) dynamics, but quantifying their effects has been challenging. Here, we investigate the cumulative effects of WWBs on ENSO characteristics, including the occurrence of extreme El Niño events, via ...

Dynamic Stress Analysis of Critical and Cyclic Loads for Production Casing in Horizontal Shale Wells
SPE/IADC International Drilling Conference and Exhibition, 2019Abstract Recent development of a new dynamic model for tubular stress analysis is now extended to the design challenges and failure modes characteristic of long production casing strings in extended horizontal shale wells. In particular, the issue of cyclic loading due to repeated sequences of multi-stage fracturing has not been ...

Critical voltages and blocking stresses in nematic gels
The European Physical Journal E, 2007We present a model of the dynamics of director rotation in nematic gels under combined electro-mechanical loading. Focusing on a model specimen, we describe the critical voltages that must be exceeded to achieve director reorientation, and the blocking stresses that prevent alignment of the nematic director with the applied electric field.

AbstractThe true stress–strain curve of Cu–Fe16Mn0.6C twinning induced plasticity (TWIP) steel was studied with a compression test on Thermecmastor‐Z thermal simulator at a temperature range of 850–1150°C and strain rate range of 0.03–30 s−1. The influence of deformation temperature and strain rate on high‐temperature flow stress and critical ...

Stress analysis in critical cross sections of dynamic compression bone plates
2021ABSTRACT In this study stress analysis of implant plates applied on tibia in human body is considered as a discussion subject. Tibia plate with elliptical six hole, TS 4272/2 number» in dimension of (103 x 11.5 x 4), is investigated in the study. The plate is made of 316 L type stainless steel: The plate studied is fixed to the tibia by using screws ...
