Efficient excitation and control of integrated photonic circuits with virtual critical coupling
Critical coupling in integrated photonic devices enables the efficient transfer of energy from a waveguide to a resonator, a key operation for many applications. This condition is achieved when the resonator loss rate is equal to the coupling rate to the

We consider the Bose condensation of particles with spin 1/2. The condensation is driven by an external magnetic field. Our work is motivated by ideas of quantum critical deconfinement and bosonic spinons in spin liquid states.

Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Multi-layer S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet
The multi-layer $S={1\over 2}$ square lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet with up to 6 layers is studied via various series expansions. For the systems with an odd number of coupled planes, the ground-state energy, staggered magnetization, and triplet ...

Tumor mutational burden as a determinant of metastatic dissemination patterns
This study performed a comprehensive analysis of genomic data to elucidate whether metastasis in certain organs share genetic characteristics regardless of cancer type. No robust mutational patterns were identified across different metastatic locations and cancer types.

Critical potentials for soft X-ray excitation [PDF]
In the ‘ Proceedings of the Royal Society,’ A, vol. 110, p. 64 (1926), the authors have described an investigation of the critical potentials corresponding to the values of the electron energy associated with some of the softer X-ray levels of the elements chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, and zinc. In this investigation a

Targeting p38α in cancer: challenges, opportunities, and emerging strategies
p38α normally regulates cellular stress responses and homeostasis and suppresses malignant transformation. In cancer, however, p38α is co‐opted to drive context‐dependent proliferation and dissemination. p38α also supports key functions in cells of the tumor microenvironment, including fibroblasts, myeloid cells, and T lymphocytes.

Zoo of quantum phases and excitations of cold bosonic atoms in optical lattices
Quantum phases and phase transitions of weakly- to strongly-interacting bosonic atoms in deep to shallow optical lattices are described by a {\it single multi-orbital mean-field approach in real space}.

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Inhibition of the photoinduced structural phase transition in the excitonic insulator Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$
Femtosecond time-resolved mid-infrared reflectivity is used to investigate the electron and phonon dynamics occurring at the direct band gap of the excitonic insulator Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$ below the critical temperature of its structural phase transition.
