TRICRITICAL POINTS AND LIQUID-SOLID CRITICAL LINES [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Women in Mathematics, 2009
Tricritical points separate continuous and discontinuous symmetry breaking transitions. They occur in a variety of physical systems and their mathematical models. A tricritical point is used to determine a liquid-solid phase transition line in the pressure-temperature plane [Aitta, J. Stat. Mech., 2006].

Subaru High-Dispersion Spectroscopy of Narrow-Line Region in the Seyfert Galaxy NGC 4151

open access: yes, 2003
We report on a study of forbidden emission-line spectrum of nearby Seyfert 1.5 galaxy NGC 4151 based on the high-resolution (R ~ 45,000) optical spectrum obtained by using the High Dispersion Spectrograph boarded on the Subaru Telescope.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Quasi-Critical Brain Dynamics on a Non-Equilibrium Widom Line

open access: yes, 2014
Is the brain really operating at a critical point? We study the non-equilibrium properties of a neural network which models the dynamics of the neocortex and argue for optimal quasi-critical dynamics on the Widom line where the correlation length is ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Proposing a Rule for VSC-HVDC Optimal Placement to Improve Transient Stability of Power System [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Research and Technology in Electrical Industry
Transient stability indicates the system's ability to dampen the rotor oscillations of synchronous generators after severe faults. The transient instability causes considerable damage to the generator and reduces the production capacity in the network ...

Global entanglement and quantum criticality in spin chains

open access: yes, 2004
Entanglement in quantum XY spin chains of arbitrary length is investigated via a recently-developed global measure suitable for generic quantum many-body systems.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Gradient flow line near birth–death critical points [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Topology and Analysis, 2018
Near a birth–death critical point in a one-parameter family of gradient flows, there are precisely two Morse critical points of index difference one on the birth side. This paper gives a self-contained proof of the folklore theorem that these two critical points are joined by a unique gradient trajectory up to time-shift.
