Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Orbital-selective Mott transitions: Heavy fermions and beyond

open access: yes, 2010
Quantum phase transitions in metals are often accompanied by violations of Fermi liquid behavior in the quantum critical regime. Particularly fascinating are transitions beyond the Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson concept of a local order parameter.

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Flotation Separation of Cassiterite from Calcite Using Low-Molecular-Weight Citrus Pectin as Depressant

open access: yesSeparations
This paper presents the development of an environmentally friendly, small molecular depressant citrus pectin for improving the recovery of cassiterite resources. Citrus pectin extracted from citrus peel was utilized as the depressant, and it demonstrated

Achieving superior resistance to high–temperature creep in laser powder bed fusion of Inconel 718 via grain boundaries serration

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Grain boundary serration and its effect on creep property in LPBF-built Inconel 718 alloy was investigated systematically. By considering the variation of the wavelength and amplitude with processing parameters, this study elucidates the evolution of the
