Laser-Assisted Diamond Turning for Anisotropy Suppression in Calcium Fluoride
This paper proposes the use of laser-assisted cutting technology to control the brittle–plastic transition of single-crystal CaF2 through local thermal softening, thereby suppressing its processing anisotropy.

Structural and biochemical analysis of a B12 superbinder
BtuG proteins are vitamin B12 scavengers in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, a dominant human gut bacterium. We present crystal structures of three BtuG homologs bound to cobalamin and its precursor cobinamide, revealing picomolar binding affinities, among the highest known for any natural protein.

How do genomes gain new functional parts? In eukaryotes, which tend to evolve under weak selection, much of the genome is junk. Palazzo and Qiu borrow the logic of Markov chains to show how non‐functional DNA becomes functional through the appearance of intermediate states, which arise due to epistasis, buffering, and biochemical messiness, allowing ...

The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...

ABSTRACT This quantitative review evaluates the effectiveness of stress‐based critical plane criteria, specifically Findley's criterion, the approach due to Carpinteri–Spagnoli (CS), and the Modified Wöhler Curve Method (MWCM), in assessing fatigue strength in aluminum and steel welded joints subjected to constant amplitude (CA) and ...

RNA‐related functions of BRCA2 in transcription, replication, and genome stability
Beyond its role in homologous recombination, BRCA2 regulates R‐loop homeostasis, DNA–RNA hybrid resolution, RNA polymerase II dynamics, and transcriptional activation. Disruption of any of these functions can contribute to genome instability, inflammatory signaling, and tumorigenesis. BRCA2 is a central tumor suppressor protein best known for its roles

A high-cycle multiaxial fatigue criterion, based on a combined critical point-critical plane approach, is used to estimate the multiaxial endurance limit in notched metal structural components.

Heterodimeric amino acid transporters consist of SLC7 and SLC3 family proteins arranged in a conserved structural organization. They regulate nutrient transport across cell membranes, supporting essential cellular functions. These transporters also contribute to xenobiotic/drug uptake and distribution.

Life assessment of welded joints using a critical plane approach
In the present work the Fatemi-Socie approach is adopted in order to evaluate the fatigue strength of welded joints. This critical plane criterion has achieved good results in the nucleation life prediction concerning plain or notched components, however
