Aligning Critical Realism and Classic Grounded Theory

open access: yesGrounded Theory Review: An International Journal
Viewing research designs from a methodological standpoint and a philosophical lens or worldview can amplify how the doing of research may elicit meaning from people’s experiences.

Liquid Realism: Hauntology, Lack, and Mourning as Method

open access: yesOpen Philosophy
This article proposes liquid realism as a term to describe a critical stance that constitutes a metamodern methodology. Drawing on Zygmunt Bauman’s liquid modernity, Mark Fisher’s hauntology, and Jacques Lacan’s conception of the real as structural lack,

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Post Keynesianism and critical realism: what is the connection?

open access: yes, 1999
First paragraph: Is Post Keynesianism critical realist, and, if so, what does that mean for Post Keynesianism?  Critical realism is an approach to economics that has been developed in the 1980s and 1990s (see Lawson, 1997; Fleetwood, 1999).

Christ, the cosmos and critical realism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
If one accepts the premise that both science and theology are engaging with a reality that can be referred to, but which is beyond the range of a literal description, then science and theology can be brought in to meaningful dialogue through a framework ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Wright’s Version of Critical Realism

open access: yes, 2016
N. T. Wright’s research project “Christian Origins and the Question of God” is characterized by its use of the method of critical realism. Now, “critical realism” is a term that has been used in connection with different epistemo-logical positions ...
