Abstract The critical strain is a strain level at the tunnel periphery beyond which the instability and squeezing problems are likely to occur, thereby it provides helpful guide to assess the tunnel stability. Among the current studies for predicting the critical strain, the influence factors such as the required support pressure, the strain ...

Critical strain of the sharp indentation through serration behavior with strain rate
International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 2019Abstract The indentation test is often used to determine the mechanical properties of materials, and its results are typically compared with uniaxial test results. However, the relationship between the indentation and uniaxial tests is unclear. Previously, the limit at which the indentation and uniaxial tests can be related has been determined by ...

The deviatoric strain description of the critical properties of Nb3Sn conductors
Physica C: Superconductivity and Its Applications, 2002It is well known that the critical field, -temperature and -current of Nb3Sn superconductors are very sensitive to deformations. In 1994 a new, three-dimensional (3D) model was presented, which accurately describes the behavior of the critical parameters with respect to strain, the so-called deviatoric strain description.

Critical behavior of a strain percolation model for metals
Physical Review E, 2002Extensive simulations of a strain percolation model for a deforming metal have been performed to examine its strain behavior. We find that the total strain exhibits critical power-law behavior that is well explained by two-dimensional percolation theory.

The Mechanism of Critical Strain of Serrated Yielding in Strain Rate Domain
Chinese Physics Letters, 2016The mechanism of the critical strain of serrated yielding is studied via tension tests at various strain rates. Before the critical strain, it is deduced that dislocations are not pinned at high strain rates, and dislocations at low strain rates are pinned but cannot escape.

Critical Strain for Shish-Kebab Formation
Macromolecules, 2009A combination of extensional rheological and in situ synchrotron radiation small-angle X-ray scattering (SR-SAXS) measurements was introduced to investigate critical strain e* for shish formation and validate whether coil−stretch transition or stretched-network is responsible for shish-kebab formation in high density polyethylene melt.

A Strained Criticism of Wave Theory
Terrorism and Political Violence, 2015In the deepest depths of my Cold War childhood, I recall asking my father “what is Communism?” It was in school, on television, in comic books, and on the radio.

Critical Thickness for Strained Quantum Wires
MRS Proceedings, 1995ABSTRACTThe stability of strained quantum wires against the propagation of threading dislocations is considered, using a critical thickness criterion due to Matthews and Blakeslee that is extensively used for strained layers. Given first are results for the critical mismatch at which a buried wire of a given thickness becomes susceptible to degradation.
