U talijanskom jeziku u posljednjih pedeset godina engleski je preuzeo ulogu najvažnijeg jezika davatelja od francuskoga. Utjecaj engleskoga tiče se kako različitih razina općega jezika, pisanog i govornog, tako i strukovnih jezika. Ta promjena utjecaja zajednička je i drugim europskim jezicima, među kojima i hrvatskome.

Studija polazi od teze da se frazemi (frazeološki paraleksemi) u međujezičnim dodirima mogu posuđivati, doduše, kako se pokazalo, daleko rjeđe nego takoznavi monoleksemi. Posuđeni frazemi su načelno pokazivali nekakve svoje posebnosti koje je bilo potrebno istražiti i dati im preciznu lingvističku deskripciju.
