Cromolyn Sodium

Chest, 1985
Cromolyn sodium is a valuable agent in the pharmacologic management of asthma. In addition to its established effects of inhibiting mediator release, it now appears that it is a useful drug for diminishing the effects of reflex-mediated asthma, nonspecific bronchial hyperreactivity, and diurnal swings of bronchial lability.

Cromolyn sodium in seasonal allergic conjunctivitis

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 1985
A formulation of 2% cromolyn sodium (CS) ophthalmic solution without the preservative, 2-phenylethanol, was compared with placebo in 58 patients with seasonal allergic conjunctivitis. Selection was based on history and positive skin tests. Neither immunotherapy nor use of antihistamines was allowed.

Detrimental effect of hypotonic cromolyn sodium

The Journal of Pediatrics, 1992
In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study, inhalation of the commercially available nebulized form of cromolyn sodium resulted in a significant decrease in forced midexpiratory flow rate between the 25th and 75th percentile points, equivalent to that observed for distilled water, in children with chronic asthma.

Cromolyn sodium toxicity studies in primates

Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, 1981
Abstract The safety evaluation of cromolyn sodium (sodium cromoglycate) included 20 separate toxicity studies in rhesus, cynomolgus and stump-tailed macaques, baboons, and squirrel monkeys. The studies were performed to help evaluate the safety for humans of the use of the compound by dry powder inhalation for the treatment of asthma and by ...

Cromolyn Sodium (Disodium Cromoglycate) Prophylaxis

Pediatric Clinics of North America, 1975
Successful therapeutic application of cromolyn sodium prophylaxis depends on a correct etiologic diagnosis of asthma and on the ability to predict the clinical behavior of a patient by means of extended clinical observations and appropriate tests. Adequate preparation of each patient with intensive bronchodilator and, when necessary, corticosteroid ...

Solid-state behavior of cromolyn sodium hydrates

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1999
Cromolyn sodium (CS, disodium cromoglycate) is an antiasthmatic and antiallergenic drug. The solid-state behavior of CS is still not completely understood. CS forms nonstoichiometric hydrates and sorbs and liberates water in a continuous manner, although with hysteresis.

Immunologic Components of Hypersensitivity Reactions to Cromolyn Sodium

New England Journal of Medicine, 1975
Manifestations of cellular and humoral hypersensitivity to cromolyn sodium were sought in six asthmatic patients suspected of having acute (three cases) or subacute (three cases) adverse reactions to cromolyn inhalation. Lymphocytes from all patients produced migration inhibition factor (MIF), and those from four patients incorporated increased amounts

Cromolyn sodium in the management of systemic mastocytosis

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 1990
A multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of the efficacy of oral cromolyn sodium (200 mg orally four times per day) was conducted in 11 patients with systemic mastocytosis who had been maintained with the drug on an individualized compassionate-need basis.
