BIRDS DAMAGE TO HORTICULTURAL CROPS

2023
Frugivorous birds impose tremendous costs on tree fruit growers by direct consumption of fruits and grower efforts to control birds. An essential step to reduce damage caused by birds is the identification of species responsible for damage and quantification of damage. Parakeets, Bulbuls, Mynas, Crows, Koel and barbet etc.

Notes on Crop Damage by Jackrabbits

Transactions of the Kansas Academy of Science (1903-), 1958
The number of black-tailed jackrabbits (Lepus californicus melanotis) seems to increase during periods of drought in western Kansas (Wooster 1935, Bronson 1957). The authors (Bronson and Tiemeier, in press) have shown that much of an apparent population increase of this species may be caused by a concentrating of the population in response to ...

Damage to Crops

1999
Damage to agriculture from SO2 was calculated for the following crops: winter and summer wheat, winter and summer barley, rye and peas. Also damage from O3 to wheat was calculated but given data limitations this last result can only be considered as a very rough first estimate.

Flood Damage to Rice Crop in Bangladesh

Geographical Review, 1993
EVERY year, almost one-third of Bangladesh is flooded. However, because of topographical characteristics, the regions of the country experience varied degrees of flooding; some parts may be under deep floodwater, others unaffected. Flooding is beneficial only within certain limits of timing, duration, and magnitude (Paul 1984; Rasid and Paul 1987).

Crop Damage from Sulfur Dioxide

Journal of Farm Economics, 1966
The pollution abatement problem has always been in part a measurement problem. In order to properly evaluate the full extent of pollution damage to crops objective methods for determining the losses are necessary. A method has been reviewed for determining the losses due to SO/sub 2/.

Damage to Crops and Other Plants

1983
Damage to crops caused by gaseous pollutants, like that of trees, can be acute or have chronic/growth effects. However, unlike trees, there is little evidence for any acute damage. Identification of yield effects, by their very nature, must rely upon constructed experiments, otherwise other factors such as climate, soil or agricultural management mask ...

Crop Damage: The Hail Size Factor

Journal of Applied Meteorology, 1996
Abstract Between 1986 and 1992 a research project was developed and carried out on hail climatology and the economic repercussions of hail on agriculture in Leon (northwestern Spain). A target area with an extent of 6825 km2 was defined, within which a network of meteorological observers was established at an average density of 1 per 17 km2.

Hailfall and crop damage in central Alberta

The Journal of Weather Modification, 1975
