Crop Load Management in Nashi Pear—A Review

open access: yesHorticulturae, 2022
Most nashi cultivars require heavy thinning, and this has traditionally been performed by the time and labour-intensive practice of hand thinning. Crop load management is a key cost driver for nashi production, but there are limited cost-effective options available for nashi growers compared to other pome fruit, especially apples and, to a lesser ...

Crop load effects on floral quality in olive

open access: yesScientia Horticulturae, 1994
Alternate bearing in olive is largely determined by flowering load. In order to know if there are differences in floral quality related to flower load, and if these differences reinforce or alleviate the alternate-bearing tendency, we compared pistil abortion, floral sink strength and fruit set between “on” and “off” ‘Manzanillo’ olive trees ...

Unravelling the effects of berry size on ‘Tempranillo’ grapes under different field practices [PDF]

open access: yesCiência e Técnica Vitivinícola, 2019
Small berries are considered to produce the best red wines as berry size determines the skin to pulp ratio and may affect wine composition. However, contrasting results have been reported about this postulate. In this context, the aim of this work was to

Same Season and Carry-Over Effects of Source-Sink Adjustments on Grapevine Yields and Non-structural Carbohydrates

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
The grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) is managed to balance the ratio of leaf area (source) to fruit mass (sink). Over cropping in the grapevine may reveal itself as spontaneous fruit abortion, delayed ripening, or as alternate bearing.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Correlation of production constraints with the yield gap of apple cropping systems in Luochuan County, China

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2019
Apple occupies a dominant position in fruit production globally, and has become the main income source of local smallholder farmers in Luochuan County in the Loess Plateau area, one of the largest apple production areas in China.
