Energy balance of different organic biogas farming systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The ecological impact of biogas plants depends on their integration into a given farming system. Therefore only farm-specific and no general statements are possible. In this paper, two different concepts of biogas production for an organic cash crop farm

Diversifying crop rotation increases food production, reduces net greenhouse gas emissions and improves soil health

open access: yesNature Communications
Global food production faces challenges in balancing the need for increased yields with environmental sustainability. This study presents a six-year field experiment in the North China Plain, demonstrating the benefits of diversifying traditional cereal ...

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Mitigating the trade-off between grain yield and vegetative biomass with orthosilicic acid towards enhancing lodging resistance in upland rice

open access: yesDiscover Plants
Achieving a balance between high yield and strong lodging resistance (LR) remains a major challenge in rice improvement, as shifts in biomass accumulation and allocation can enhance yield but weaken plant architecture.

Strategic management of nitrogen within an organic cropping system using digestate from biogas production of recirculated crop residues [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This project investigates strategic management of nitrogen by integrating crop residue management with biogas production. The approach offers potential for diversified farmer income, as food crops, feedstock for biogas and digestate for nutrient cycling ...

Feeding the world: improving photosynthetic efficiency for sustainable crop production

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2019
This review explores the evidence to date that manipulation of the Calvin–Benson cycle, photorespiration, and electron transport can lead to improvement in biomass and seed yield. Future prospects are also discussed.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

The emergence of a atrazine resistant black nightshade (Solanum nigrum L.) biotype and molecular basis of the resistance

open access: yesPlant Protection Science, 2004
Seeds from atrazine resistant plants of black nightshade (Solanum nigrum L.) were collected at the railway station Prague-Vršovice, seeds from susceptible plants in Vyšehořovice (Prague East district). Tests on emergence showed that in both resistant and

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...
