Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Information and Opportunistic Behavior in Federal Crop Insurance Programs [PDF]

open access: yes
Opportunistic behavior in crop insurance can arise due to asymmetric information between producers and the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation. Producers who insure fields using transitional yields based on county average yields or who select options such

Combining antibody conjugates with cytotoxic and immune‐stimulating payloads maximizes anti‐cancer activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.

Coastal surface water suitability analysis for irrigation in Bangladesh

open access: yesApplied Water Science, 2018
Water with adequate quality and quantity is very important for irrigation to ensure the crop yields. Salinity is common problem in the coastal waters in Bangladesh. The intensity of salinity in the coastal zone in Bangladesh is not same.

The Effects of Transitional Yields on Adverse Selection in Crop Insurance [PDF]

open access: yes
Transitional yields based on county average can be used by producers as the basis to obtain crop insurance on fields that have not previously produced the crop.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

The Influence of Genetic Modification Technologies on U.S. and EU Crop Yields

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, 2019
Over 90% of U.S. corn and soybeans are planted with genetically modified (GM) seed varieties. We use a flexible, nonlinear functional form to investigate yield differences for corn, soybeans, and wheat between the United States and the European Union ...

Weather Insurance of Wine - How Quantity and Quality Regulations Affect Risks [PDF]

open access: yes
To develop weather insurance, GROUPAMA builds a general model of agronomic crop yield density function. This approach is applied for cereal, industrial products, wine and fruits. From the density function, weather risk premium is computed.

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

A data-driven impact evaluation of nutrient input reduction on wheat yields across Europe

open access: yesInternational Soil and Water Conservation Research
The European Union (EU) is one of the largest cereal producers in the world, with wheat covering around one-third of its agricultural area. Sustainable soil management has been put as a key point of EU Green Deal policies, with concrete measures to ...
