Evaluation of an agricultural area affected by a vegetation fire using remote sensing techniques

open access: yesNova Geodesia
This study assesses the impact of a wildfire on an agricultural area using remote sensing techniques. Satellite images (Sentinel 2) were taken before the wildfire (bf) and after the wildfire (af).

GM crops and gender issues [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Correspondence in the December issue by Jonathan Gressel not only states that gender issues in rural settings have not been adequately addressed with respect to weed control biotech but also asserts that such technology can increase the quality of life ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Advances in the Application of Nanocomposite Hydrogels in Crops

open access: yesGels
Conventional agricultural practices, based on intensive irrigation and heavy fertilizer and pesticide inputs, are increasingly incompatible with climate change, soil degradation, and sustainability goals.

Field Evaluation of Herbicides on Small Fruit, Vegetable, and Ornamental Crops, 1997 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Growers generally use herbicides to efficiently produce high-quality fruit and vegetables for processing or fresh market sales. Due to the smaller acreage of these crops compared to major field crops, fewer herbicides are registered for use in fruit and ...

Plant tolerance to high temperature in a changing environment: scientific fundamentals and production of heat stress-tolerant crops

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2013
Global warming is predicted to have a general negative effect on plant growth due to the damaging effect of high temperatures on plant development.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

THE INVESTIGATION OF CROP WEEDINESS IN THE CROP ROTATION OF ORGANIC FARMING SYSTEM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Field experiments were conducted during the period of 2004 – 2006 at the Research and Study Farm „Vecauce”. The aim of the investigation was to establish the weediness’ dynamics of crops in a six-field crop rotation of an organic farming system.
