On the architectural qualities of cross laminated timber

2010
In resent years wood as a building material has gain renewed focus and with that new production methods and wooden products have been developed. One of these products is Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) which, by means of high-technology production and a distinctive construction with layers of lamellae glued together crosswise, possesses structural ...

Tapered Beams Made of Cross Laminated Timber

2014
A method to determine strength reduction factors for tapered beamsmade of cross laminated timber (CLT) is presented. The method is based on EC5 equations for the calculation of strength reduction factors for tapered glulam beams. For CLT-beams, however, the required strength properties, i.e.

Improved fire performance of cross-laminated timber

2021
Fire behavior of cross-laminated timber (CLT) has been well documented in the past decade by several research organizations and universities across North America, Europe and Japan. The recent revision of ANSI/APA PRG 320 introduced two mandatory adhesive test methods to greatly reduce the potential for heat delamination.

HARDWOOD CROSS-LAMINATED TIMBER PRODUCTION

The building construction industry is experiencing a shift towards more sustainable materials such as Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT). In the U.S., CLT is predominantly manufactured from softwoods such as southern yellow pine, of which about 60% of the demand are sourced domestically.

Cross laminated timber panels to strengthen wood floors

2008
Cross laminated timber panels are generally used to build walls and floor slabs of wood houses, but they have interesting mechanical characteristics to be used for strengthening ancient wood floors in restoration interventions. In particular they can be connected to the existing wood beams to have a floor diaphragm effect under seismic actions.

Nondestructive Assessment of Hardwood Cross-Laminated Timber

Forest Products Journal
Abstract This study investigated the use of longitudinal vibration technique to evaluate the mechanical properties of cross-laminated timber (CLT) of four species of lumber—red oak (Quercus rubra), sweetgum (Liquidambar spp.), yellow poplar (Liriodendron spp.), and southern pine (SYP; Pinus spp.).

Self-extinguishment of cross-laminated timber

2016
Cross-laminated timber, or CLT, is receiving attention for its potential use in tall buildings. As a combustible material, one of the challenges for the construction of these buildings is the fire risk that results from its use in the structure. Unprotected CLT can burn along with the fuel load present in a compartment.
