p-Cross-section bodies

open access: yesIndiana University Mathematics Journal, 1999
The authors investigate so-called \(p\)-cross-section bodies \(C_pK(p>-1)\) whose radial function in any direction \(u\in S^{d-1}\) is the \(p\)-th mean of the \((d-2)\)-volumes of hyperplane sections (orthogonal to \(u)\) of a convex body \(K\subset\mathbb{R}^d\). They prove that \(C_1K\) is convex, whereas \(C_pK\) is generally not convex for \(p>1\).

THE RADAR CROSS SECTION OF A SEMI-INFINITE BODY

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Physics, 1960
The concept of cross section as applied to a semi-infinite scattering body seems to require some clarification. The need for careful formulation of the problem arises because of the simultaneous occurrence of two characteristic lengths tending to infinity: the range from the radar to the target, and the size of the target.

Convex bodies with non‐convex cross‐section bodies

Mathematika, 1999
For \(K\) a convex body in \(\mathbb{R}^d\), the inner \((d-1)\)-quermass at direction \(u\in S^{d-1}\) is defined by \[ m_K(u)= \max_{t\in R}\lambda_{d-1} \bigl( K\cap (u^\perp+ tu)\bigr), \] where \(\lambda_{d-1}\) denotes the \((d-1)\)-dimensional Lebesgue measure. The cross-section body \(CK\) of \(K\), introduced by H.
