Ionization cross sections for low energy electron transport

open access: yes, 2011
Two models for the calculation of ionization cross sections by electron impact on atoms, the Binary-Encouter-Bethe and the Deutsch-Maerk models, have been implemented; they are intended to extend and improve Geant4 simulation capabilities in the energy ...

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Comparison of Lasso and stepwise regression technique for wheat yield prediction

open access: yesJournal of Agrometeorology, 2019
Multiple regression approach has been used to forecast the crop production widely. This study has been undertaken to evaluate the performance of stepwise and Lasso (Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator) regression technique in variable ...

CVTresh: R Package for Level-Dependent Cross-Validation Thresholding [PDF]

open access: yes
The core of the wavelet approach to nonparametric regression is thresholding of wavelet coefficients. This paper reviews a cross-validation method for the selection of the thresholding value in wavelet shrinkage of Oh, Kim, and Lee (2006), and introduces

Construction and evaluation of classifiers for forensic document analysis

open access: yes, 2011
In this study we illustrate a statistical approach to questioned document examination. Specifically, we consider the construction of three classifiers that predict the writer of a sample document based on categorical data.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Machine Learning-Based Scrap Steel Price Forecasting for the Northeast Chinese Market

open access: yesInternational Journal of Empirical Economics
Throughout history, governments and investors have relied on predictions of prices for a broad spectrum of commodities. Using time-series data covering 08/23/2013–04/15/2021, this study investigates the challenging problem of predicting scrap steel ...

An Experimental Evaluation of Nearest Neighbour Time Series Classification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Data mining research into time series classification (TSC) has focussed on alternative distance measures for nearest neighbour classifiers. It is standard practice to use 1-NN with Euclidean or dynamic time warping (DTW) distance as a straw man for ...

Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.
