Genetic Complexity in a Drosophila Model of Diabetes-Associated Misfolded Human Proinsulin [PDF]
Here we use Drosophila melanogaster to create a genetic model of human permanent neonatal diabetes mellitus and present experimental results describing dimensions of this complexity. The approach involves the transgenic expression of a misfolded mutant of human preproinsulin, hINSC96Y, which is a cause of the disease.

Transcriptome‐wide analysis of circRNA and RBP profiles and their molecular relevance for GBM
CircRNAs are differentially expressed in glioblastoma primary tumors and might serve as therapeutic targets and diagnostic markers. The investigation of circRNA and RNA‐binding proteins (RBPs) interactions shows that distinct RBPs play a role in circRNA biogenesis and function.

Age, Sex, and Genetic Architecture of Human Gene Expression in EBV Transformed Cell Lines [PDF]
Individual expression profiles from EBV transformed cell lines are an emerging resource for genomic investigation. In this study we characterize the effects of age, sex, and genetic variation on gene expression by surveying public datasets of such profiles.

This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Genetic Programming Crossover: Does It Cross over? [PDF]
One justification for the use of crossover operators in Genetic Programming is that the crossover of program syntax gives rise to the crossover of information at the semantic level. In particular, a fitness-increasing crossover is presumed to act by combining fitness-contributing components of both parents.

Combining melting curve analysis enhances the multiplexing capability of digital PCR. Here, we developed a 14‐plex assay to simultaneously measure single nucleotide mutations and amplifications of KRAS and GNAS, which are common driver genes in pancreatic cancer precursors. This assay accurately quantified variant allele frequencies in clinical samples

Using Genetic Distance to Infer the Accuracy of Genomic Prediction [PDF]
The prediction of phenotypic traits using high-density genomic data has many applications such as the selection of plants and animals of commercial interest; and it is expected to play an increasing role in medical diagnostics. Statistical models used for this task are usually tested using cross-validation, which implicitly assumes that new individuals

Use of DNA-based genetic markers in plant breeding [PDF]
Genetic markers have been used since the beginnings of plant breeding, but the concept of linkage and recently the availability of molecular markers have offered new and powerful tools that can help to perform the traditional tasks of selection or that ...
