Crosslinked low density polyethylene filled with silica—I. the effect of filler on crosslinking
European Polymer Journal, 1992Abstract Mixtures of low density polyethylene with various types of silica were investigated. The polymer matrix was crosslinked by initiation with peroxides. Four grades of silica were characterized by different methods. The presence of SiO 2 was found to lead to the formation of bound polymer, its proportion depending on the surface area of the ...

Rubber elasticity and inhomogeneities in crosslink density
Macromolecules, 1992The effects of network defects, such as weak inhomogeneities in the crosslink density, on the free energy of the sample, i.e. the mechanical stress-strain relation, and on the neutron scattering form factor are discussed. It is shown that there is only a marginal effect on the free energy of the sample. Essentially there is no change in the deformation

Carbohydrate Polymers, 1993
Abstract For an ideal polysaccharide gel with a known total polymer chain contour length, crosslinks all of the same functionality and elastic chains all with the same contour length and stiffness, the gel crosslink density can readily be determined from measurements of the maximum volume of the swollen gel (Moe et al., (1991) Food Hydrocolloids ...

Polymer, 1990
Mechanical and swelling measurements were carried out on samples of dicumyl-peroxide-crosslinked natural rubber. The balance of the elastic free energy and the mixing free energy at swelling equilibrium was used to calculate the value of the Flory-Huggins χ parameter for a series of crosslinked rubbers swollen in an excess of different solvents.

Diffusion in polymers dependence on crosslink density
Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2010Kinetics of N-methyl pyrrolidone evaporation from swollen photo-crosslinked polyacrylate was monitored thermogravimetrically at temperatures ranging from 323 to 398 K. Crosslink density dependence of evaporation kinetics was investigated in photo-crosslinked polyacrylates with crosslinked density ranging from ≈1.2 × 102 to ≈1.7 × 104 mol m−3 and number

Measurement of crosslink density in vulcanized blends
1998Much of the work described in this book has been enabled or assisted by the ability to measure crosslink densities of the individual rubbers in a vulcanized blend. Indeed, for two of the blend systems, NR/NBR and NR/EPDM, the problems were to some extent defined by earlier measurements of crosslink densities.

Effect of varying crosslinking density on polyacrylamide gels
Ferroelectrics, 1980Abstract The copolymerization of acrylamide and N, N′-methylene bisacrylamide has been investigated over a wide range of total monomer concentration (T) and with the proportion of the crosslinking monomer (C) varying from 0 to 100%. The threshold value of the total monomer concentration above which gel formation becomes possible decreases as C ...

Crosslink densities and phase morphologies in thermoplastic vulcanizates
Polymer, 2004The degree of EPDM crosslinking during dynamic vulcanization of a PP/ EPDM thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) was modified by varying its phenolic curative content. The rise in TPV viscosity, the drop in its swelling, the change in its NMR MAS lineshape, and the increase in its EPDM domain AFM force modulation hardness verified the increase in EPDM ...

Crosslinking reactions in an unsaturated low density polyethylene
Polymer, 1997Abstract The peroxide crosslinking properties of a new group of low density polyethylenes (LDPE), unsaturated LDPE, were investigated. These are copolymers between ethylene and 1,9-decadiene and contain a higher number of vinyl groups than ‘ordinary’ LDPE, situated on pendant carbon chains.
