Nonparametric Approaches to the Analysis of Crossover Studies

open access: yesStatistical Science, 2004
We illustrate nonparametric, and particularly rank-based analyses of crossover studies, designs in which each subject receives more than one treatment over time. Principles involved in using the Wilcoxon rank sum test in the simple two-period, two-treatment crossover are described through theory and example.

Investigation of the Effects of Strain and Electric Field on the Spin‐State Energetics of Co‐Doped BaTiO3 and PbTiO3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ab initio calculations using the r2SCAN functional show that biaxial strain does not alter the high spin preference of cobalt‐doped BaTiO3 and PbTiO3; a small compressive uniaxial strain however results in an equally favorable low spin state for BaTiO3 and thus bistable magnetism.

Association between Ambient Temperature and Hospitalization for Renal Diseases in Brazil during 2000–2015: A Nationwide Case-Crossover Study

open access: yesThe Lancet Regional Health. Americas, 2022
Summary: Background: Climate change is increasing the risks of injuries, diseases, and deaths globally. However, the association between ambient temperature and renal diseases has not been fully characterized.

Spectrum and Dynamics of the BCS-BEC crossover from a few-body perspective

open access: yes, 2007
The spectrum of two spin-up and two spin-down fermions in a trap is calculated using a correlated gaussian basis throughout the range of the BCS-BEC crossover. These accurate calculations provide a few-body solution to the crossover problem.

Selective Membrane for Non‐Aqueous Electrochemical Flow Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sulfonated fixed charge functionalization is increased to improve the conductivity of a cation exchange membrane in a non‐aqueous electrochemical cell. Based on ex situ analyses, the material achieved the highest selectivity for this type of system to date.

Evolution of pairing from weak to strong coupling on a honeycomb lattice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We study the evolution of the pairing from weak to strong coupling on a honeycomb lattice by Quantum Monte Carlo. We show numerical evidence of the BCS-BEC crossover as the coupling strength increases on a honeycomb lattice with small fermi surface by ...

Acute infection as a trigger for incident venous thromboembolism: Results from a population‐based case‐crossover study

open access: yesResearch and Practice in Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 2017
Essentials There is a bidirectional relation between acute infections and immobilization We studied the impact of infection and immobilization on risk of VTE in a case‐crossover design Acute infection was a strong trigger for VTE independent of ...

Bio‐Responsive Hydrogel for Targeted on‐Demand Release of a Phage Cocktail for Treatment of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an injectable hydrogel that responds to Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection by releasing a dual‐phage cocktail on demand. The system degrades selectively in infected wounds, enhances phage localization and stability, and shows potent antibiofilm activity and biocompatibility in an ex vivo human skin model—offering a promising strategy ...

Does a functional prosection provide a more effective method of learning the anatomy of the forearm and hand than a 3D online anatomy resource?

open access: yesMedEdPublish, 2018
Recent changes to anatomy education across UK medical schools are thought to be contributing towards a lower proficiency in anatomical expertise amongst students. The introduction of alternative learning methods may help to overcome this. Prosections and
