Fuzzy Evaluation of Crowd Safety Based on Pedestrians’ Number and Distribution Entropy

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
Crowd video monitoring and analysis is a hot topic in computer vision and public management. The pre-evaluation of crowd safety is beneficial to the prediction of crowd status to avoid the occurrence of catastrophic events.

An analysis of manoeuvring in dense crowds [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 8th ACM SIGGRAPH Conference on Motion in Games, 2015
In high-density crowds, one can observe torso twists; people rotatetheir upper body to decrease their width perpendicular to the motionpath, in order to squeeze through narrow spaces between othercrowd members. In this paper we investigate such behaviour, byrecording and analysing dense crowds.

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

Crowd behavior understanding through SIOF feature analysis [PDF]

open access: yes2017 23rd International Conference on Automation and Computing (ICAC), 2017
Realizing the automated and online detection of crowd anomalies from surveillance CCTVs is a research-intensive and application-demanding task. This research proposes a novel technique for detecting crowd abnormalities through analyzing the spatial and temporal features of the input video signals.

Ideal observer analysis of crowding and the reduction of crowding through learning

open access: yesJournal of Vision, 2010
Crowding is a prominent phenomenon in peripheral vision where nearby objects impede one's ability to identify a target of interest. The precise mechanism of crowding is not known. We used ideal observer analysis and a noise-masking paradigm to identify the functional mechanism of crowding.

Coordinated Crowd Simulation With Topological Scene Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, 2015
AbstractThis paper proposes a new algorithm to produce globally coordinated crowds in an environment with multiple paths and obstacles. Simple greedy crowd control methods easily lead to congestion at bottlenecks within scenes, as the characters do not cooperate with one another.

Enhancing Low‐Temperature Performance of Sodium‐Ion Batteries via Anion‐Solvent Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DOL is introduced into electrolytes as a co‐solvent, increasing slat solubility, ion conductivity, and the de‐solvent process, and forming an anion‐rich solvent shell due to its high interaction with anion. With the above virtues, the batteries using this electrolyte exhibit excellent cycling stability at low temperatures. Abstract Sodium‐ion batteries

Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.
