Technology for simulating crowd evacuation behaviors
International Journal of Automation and Computing, 2009This paper presents a model for simulating crowd evacuation and investigates three widely recognized problems. For the space continuity problem, this paper presents two computation algorithms: one uses grid space to evaluate the coordinates of the obstacle’s bounding box and the other employs the geometry rule to establish individual evacuation routes.

A Hybrid Simulation of Large Crowd Evacuation
2011 IEEE 17th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems, 2011A Grid simulation infrastructure can facilitate a simulation comprising models of different grains and/or models of various types in nature to investigate large and complicated problems. On top of the infrastructure, a simulation of evacuating thousands of pedestrians in a large urban area has been constructed. A number of agent-based and computational

Crowd evacuation of pairs of pedestrians
Communications in Theoretical Physics, 2022Abstract The crowd evacuation of pairs of pedestrians (i.e. pairs consisting of a parent and a child) is numerically investigated. Here, it is assumed that all pedestrians have their own partners, and move randomly inside the bounded domain of the right-hand room as an initial state.

On the Efficiency of LifeBelt Based Crowd Evacuation
2009 13th IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Distributed Simulation and Real Time Applications, 2009To support the evacuation process of crowds from emergency situations, we have developed a wearable device, LifeBelt, for vibro tactile guidance of individuals in panic towards exits. Since visual and auditory perception is overwhelmed in situations of panic, exit sign and loudspeaker based evacuation often appears ineffective.

Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Intelligent Virtual Agents, 2018
Crowd simulation has its greatest utility in the study of safety measures for crowded events. However, total evacuation time, which is the most important feature in crowd evacuation, can vary depending on the population, the environment, the adopted strategies to decide routes, but also because people can be panicked or not. This paper presents a model

Modelling and simulation of crowd evacuation in terrorist attacks
Kybernetes, 2022PurposeIn recent years, terrorist attacks have gradually become one of the important factors endangering social security. In this context, this research aims to propose methods and principles which can be utilized to make effective evacuation plans to reduce casualties in terrorist attacks.Design/methodology/approachBy analyzing the statistical data of

An Overview of Crowd Evacuation Simulation
Advanced Science Letters, 2017Emergency scenario is an unforeseen situation that threated human life. Emergency action plans comprising crowd evacuation is essential to prevent the occurrence of human injury and death. Therefore, this paper proposed a crowd evacuation simulation model to provide an effective and realistic approach in dealing with evacuation procedure during fire in

Crowd evacuation simulation based on emotion contagion
International Journal of Simulation and Process Modelling, 2018Simulation study on evacuation scenarios has an important influence on public safety. Unfortunately, the traditional evacuation-drill approach for emergency situations focuses on the physiological interaction between individuals/crowds, whereas the approach ignores psychological interaction.

Evaluating and optimizing level of service for crowd evacuations
Proceedings of the 8th ACM SIGGRAPH Conference on Motion in Games, 2015Level of service (LoS) is a standard indicator, widely used in crowd management and urban design, for characterizing the service afforded by environments to crowds of specific densities. However, current LoS indicators are qualitative and rely on expert analysis. Computational approaches for crowd analysis and environment design require robust measures
