We identify the long‐known virulence factor VirJ as a lysyl‐phosphatidylglycerol (L‐PG) hydrolase. Like the chromosomally encoded virulence factor AcvB, it prevents excessive accumulation of L‐PG in the membrane, thereby maintaining efficient T‐DNA transfer via the Type IV secretion system (T4SS) in Agrobacterium tumefaciens.

Anatomical structure of moss leaves and their photosynthetic activity
The photosynthetic activity of the leaf area unit increases depending on the degree of differentiation of the anatomical structure of the leaves of six chosen moss species. There is a correlation between the leaf area and the degree of differentiation of

The impact of urbanisation on social behaviour: a comprehensive review
ABSTRACT Urbanisation is a key driver of global environmental change and presents animals with novel stressors and challenges. It can fundamentally influence social behaviour and has the potential to reshape within‐ and between‐species social interactions. Given the role of social behaviour in reproductive fitness and survival, understanding how social

The Agrobacterium T-DNA oncogene 6b induces tumors and modifies the growth of transgenic plants by an unknown mechanism. We have investigated changes in roots of tobacco seedlings that express a dexamethasone-inducible T-6b (dex-T-6b) gene.

Tumorigenic agrobacteria are widespread plant pathogens causing crown gall and cane gall diseases in various agricultural crops. These pathogens genetically transform the host plant and thus form an ecological niche (galls) in which specific metabolites (

Background Agrobacterium vitis is a causal agent of crown-gall disease. Trifolitoxin (TFX) is a peptide antibiotic active only against members of a specific group of α-proteobacteria that includes Agrobacterium and its close relatives. The ability of TFX

The factors that affect oviposition and consequently spatial distribution of the galls of many gall makers are poorly understood. Knowledge of these factors could result in a better understanding of the mechanisms that initiate and regulate the ...

The effect of crown gall upon a young apple orchard
This bulletin contains a record of progress in a study of the effect of crown gall upon an apple orchard from the time it is set out until it becomes of bearing age. The relative influence of various types of galls upon the annual growth of the trees has
