Scientific justification for the selection of vegetable crops of the cruciferous family for the design of functional dairy products [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
This article is devoted to the study of the possibility of using domestic vegetable crops of the Cruciferous family (white cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, kohlrabi, Brussels sprouts, red cabbage, Savoy cabbage, Chinese cabbage and turnip) as a source of ...

The bacterial and fungal communities of the larval midgut of Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) varied by feeding on two cruciferous vegetables

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Spodoptera frugiperda is a highly polyphagous pest worldwide with a wide host range that causes serious losses to many economically important crops. Recently, insect-microbe associations have become a hot spot in current entomology research, and the ...

Different Effects of Induced Plant Defense on Population Densities of Specialist and Generalist Insects: An Explanation by Mathematical Modeling

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
Induced defense chemicals in plants determine the community structure of different insect (herbivore) groups. In particular, specialists are endemic and generalists are non‐endemic in the wild because of the ecological roles of induced secondary metabolites.

Thermal requirements for flight of six species of flea beetle of the genus Phyllotreta (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)

open access: yesPlant Protection Science, 2002
The flight activity of six species of the flea beetles of the genus Phyllotreta was monitored by means of yellow water traps in three years. The percentage composition of the total catch of adults made up of the species was 29.5% (P.

Rewiring nutrition: Chemical insights into the physiological and microbiological roles of food's microconstituents

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, Volume 3, Issue 3, Page 444-465, September 2026.
Bidirectional interactions between food‐derived sensory compounds, gut sensing and microbiota, host physiological feedback, and metabolite production within the food matrix collectively shape sensory perception, microbial dynamics, and metabolic health.

Development and Quality Evaluation of Fiber‐Enriched Pasta Incorporating Green Banana Flour and Whole Wheat Flour: Physicochemical, Antioxidant, and Sensory Properties

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study developed fiber‐enriched pasta by incorporating green banana flour and whole wheat flour and evaluated its nutritional, physicochemical, antioxidant, and sensory properties. Enrichment increased protein, dietary fiber, calcium, and iron contents, while DPPH radical‐scavenging activity reached 95.7%.

Comprehensive review of Plasmodiophora brassicae: pathogenesis, pathotype diversity, and integrated control methods

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Clubroot disease is an important disease of cruciferous crops worldwide caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae. The pathogen P. brassicae can infect almost all cruciferous crops, resulting in a reduction in yield and quality of the host plant. The first part

Prevention of Myc‐Driven Prostate Cancer in Mice by Oral Administration of Sulforaphane

open access: yesMolecular Carcinogenesis, Volume 65, Issue 9, Page 1052-1062, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Prevention is desirable to reduce suffering and death from prostate cancer. However, a clinical‐grade intervention for the prevention of this malignancy is still lacking. This study was undertaken to determine the feasibility of prostate cancer prevention by broccoli constituent sulforaphane (SFN) because epidemiological studies have suggested

Parasitization preference of Diaeretiella rapae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) among different aphids in vegetable ecosystem

open access: yesThe Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2014
Solitary, polyphagous, endoparasitoid Diaeretiella rapae (Mc’Intosh) is considered as one of the prominent parasitoid of aphids on several host plants under natural field conditions.

The Potential for Pest Management Using Plant‐Derived Signaling Compounds

open access: yesEcological Research, Volume 41, Issue 5, September 2026.
Plant‐derived signaling compounds mediate ecological interactions among plants, herbivores, their natural enemies, and neighboring plants. This graphical summary highlights three approaches to leveraging such ecological interactions for environmentally benign pest management: (1) Recruitment of natural enemies: Using herbivory‐induced plant volatiles ...
