Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

High-Pulse-Performance Diode-Pumped Actively Q-Switched c-cut $\hbox{Nd:Lu}_{0.1}\hbox{Y}_{0.9}\hbox{VO}_{4}$ Self-Raman Laser

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2012
We demonstrated 1175-nm acousto-optic (A-O) Q-switched self-Raman laser performance of a-cut and c-cut mixed vanadate crystals, Nd:Lu0.1Y0.9VO4 , for the first time.

Phonon engineering in Yb:La2CaB10O19 crystal for extended lasing beyond the fluorescence spectrum

open access: yesLight: Science & Applications, 2023
Since the first invention of the laser in 1960, direct lasing outside the fluorescence spectrum is deemed impossible owing to the “zero-gain” cross-section.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...
