Designed 3D DNA Crystals

2016
The simplest practical route to producing precisely designed 3D macroscopic objects is to form a crystalline arrangement by self-assembly, because such a periodic array has only conceptually simple requirements: a motif that has a robust 3D structure, dominant affinity interactions between parts of the motif when it self-associates, and predictable ...

Designed DNA Crystal Habit Modifiers

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2017
DNA is now one of the most widely used molecules for programmed self-assembly of discrete nanostructures. One of the long-standing goals of the DNA nanotechnology field has been the assembly of periodic, macroscopic 3D DNA crystals for controlled positioning of guest molecules to be used in a variety of applications.

One-dimensional photonic crystal design

Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer, 2010
In this article we present a method to determine the band spectrum, band gaps, and discrete energy levels, of a one-dimensional photonic crystal with localized impurities. For one-dimensional crystals with piecewise constant refractive indices we develop an algorithm to recover the refractive index distribution from the period map.

Design of annular photonic crystal slabs

Optics Letters, 2008
We present the design of realistic annular photonic-crystal (APC) structures of finite thickness aiming to obtain a complete photonic bandgap (PBG). The APC is composed of dielectric rods and circular air holes in a triangular lattice such that each rod is centered within each hole.

Designer Crystals:  Single Crystals with Complex Morphologies

Chemistry of Materials, 2007
Biological systems are capable of remarkable control over crystal growth, producing morphologically complex single crystals with curved surfaces. We have previously demonstrated that crystals with identical morphological complexities can be produced synthetically using templating routes. This article provides a detailed investigation into the mechanism

Photonic crystal design tool

2017 32nd Symposium on Microelectronics Technology and Devices (SBMicro), 2017
In this paper, we present a photonic crystal design tool. This is web based software interface to design and analyze photonic crystal devices supported by a client/server application architecture. The tool has three layers: interface (IL), server (SL) and MEEP (ML).
