Oriented Crystallization of Vaterite in Collagenous Matrices
Chemistry - A European Journal, 1998The influence of high super- saturation on kinetic control and the importance of the polypeptide structure in the crystallization of calcium carbo- nate polymorphs were studied in cross- linked gelatin films containing high concentrations of the polypeptides poly-l-aspartate and poly-l-glutamate.

A crystal-orienting device for ESR studies
Journal of Physics E: Scientific Instruments, 1977A description is given of a device which allows the precise orientation of a single crystal in any given direction with respect to the static magnetic field. It particularly facilitates the ESR analysis as it gives the angular dependence of the ESR signals in the principal planes.

Orientation crystallization of polymers
Fibre Chemistry, 1978The important point made in the last section was the discovery in the systems of structures of the usual folded kind and of morphological elements which consist of orientation-crystallized and probably straightened macromolecules the presence of which can be predicted from the results of a thermodynamic analysis.

A general orientation equation for rigid particles embedded in a continuum has been derived. The equation includes hydrodynamic, thermodynamic, diffusional and kinetic terms, corresponding to physically different orientation mechanisms. Some special solutions of the general equation are presented, and discussed conditions under which the general ...

Molecular Orientation in Liquid Crystal Elastomers
Macromolecules, 2005Free-standing and confined anisotropic liquid crystal elastomer films of various thicknesses have been prepared using mesogens with laterally affixed polymerizable side chains. Textures have been studied by microscopy, whereas molecular orienation of the mesogen groups has been investigated by polarized FTIR and Raman spectroscopies considering an ...

Woodpile photonic crystal of various crystal orientations
SPIE Proceedings, 2011Three-dimensional woodpile photonic crystals with a variety of crystal orientations and surfaces, including (110), (001), (100) and (010) planes, are fabricated in GaAs and silicon with the multi-directional etching method. The optical properties of the fabricated woodpile photonic crystals are characterized via reflectance spectra measurement. High

Kinetics of Oriented Attachment of Mica Crystals
Inorganic ChemistryOriented attachment (OA), that is, the coalescence of crystals through attachment on coaligned crystal faces, is a nonclassical crystal growth process. Before attachment, a mesocrystal consisting of coaligned parallel crystals but with liquid separating them was observed.

Orientational crystallization and orientational drawing as strengthening methods for polyethylene
Polymer Engineering & Science, 1993Abstract This paper reports on the theoretical and experimental studies of structure formation and strengthening (stiffening) of flexible‐chain polymers. Two techniques of strengthening relying on the melt extrusion, i.e., orientational crystallization (crystallization initiated by melt extension) and drawing (uniaxial stretching of a
