Orientational crystallization and orientational drawing as strengthening methods for polyethylene

Polymer Engineering & Science, 1993
Abstract This paper reports on the theoretical and experimental studies of structure formation and strengthening (stiffening) of flexible‐chain polymers. Two techniques of strengthening relying on the melt extrusion, i.e., orientational crystallization (crystallization initiated by melt extension) and drawing (uniaxial stretching of a

The formation of coincidence orientations on the interphase boundary in oriented crystallization

Thin Solid Films, 1979
Abstract In the systems AuSi and AuCaF 2 the formation of coincidence orientations on the interpahse boundary in oriented crystallization has been experimentally proved. It is shown that the misfit characterizing the interphase coincidence boundary determines the additional energy of the boundary.

Kinetics of Oriented Attachment of Mica Crystals

Inorganic Chemistry
Oriented attachment (OA), that is, the coalescence of crystals through attachment on coaligned crystal faces, is a nonclassical crystal growth process. Before attachment, a mesocrystal consisting of coaligned parallel crystals but with liquid separating them was observed.

Alignment of mask patterns to crystal orientation

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 1996
Abstract This work presents a method for aligning patterns on a lithography mask parallel to the (110) direction with an accuracy of about 0.1°. Wafers are oxidized or have silicon nitride deposited on them and windows are etched into this using a dark-field mask which has a series of clear circular windows on it. Then, the wafer is etched in KOH for

Orientation-induced Nucleation in Polymer Crystallization

Nature, 1966
Abstract Crystallization kinetics of polymers crystallizing from the melt are influenced by the mechanical history of the sample. Strain free samples show a larger crystallization half time than samples in which the strain has not been completely removed by relaxation at a suitable temperature.

Crystallization in oriented polymers: A framework for analyzing orientation distributions

Journal of Polymer Science: Polymer Physics Edition, 1983
AbstractA framework is presented for analyzing the changes that occur in the orientation distribution of polymer segments when crystallization occurs in an initially amorphous precursor. Existing theories which relate crystalline orientation distribution to that of the precursor can be incorporated in this framework in a straightforward manner.
