Single crystal x-ray diffraction studies on small, medium and large molecules [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Chapter 1. Production of crystals for diffraction analysis would be assisted by the devising of a set of rules which, given molecular formula, could predict crystal formation conditions.

Nicotinamide: Seven New Polymorphic Structures Revealed by Melt Crystallization and Crystal Structure Prediction

open access: yes, 2020
Here, we reported nicotinamide (NIC), a long-known vitamin, was revealed in fact to be a highly polymorphic compound with nine solved single-crystal structures by performing melt crystallization.

The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...

Bridging text and crystal structures: literature-driven contrastive learning for materials science

open access: yesMachine Learning: Science and Technology
Understanding structure–property relationships is an essential yet challenging aspect of materials discovery and development. To facilitate this process, recent studies in materials informatics have sought latent embedding spaces of crystal structures to

Guiding AlphaFold to predict how Munc13‐1 opens Syntaxin‐1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The syntaxin‐1 Habc‐domain (orange), linker (pink) and SNARE motif (yellow) form a closed conformation that binds to Munc18‐1 (violet) and is opened by the Munc13‐1 MUN domain (cyan) to form the SNARE complex that triggers neurotransmitter release.

Global Search for Structures of Carbon Crystal Under Ultrahigh Pressure

open access: yes, 2020
In this study, a systematic search for structures of carbon crystal under ultrahigh pressure was performed by using the artificial force induced reaction method including periodic boundary conditions (PBC/SC-AFIR).

Crystal structure of the 25 kDa subunit of human cleavage factor Im [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Cleavage factor I(m) is an essential component of the pre-messenger RNA 3'-end processing machinery in higher eukaryotes, participating in both the polyadenylation and cleavage steps. Cleavage factor I(m) is an oligomer composed of a small 25 kDa subunit

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.
