Inherent Structures of Crystalline Tetracene

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2006
We have systematically sampled the potential energy surface of crystalline tetracene to identify its local minima. These minima represent all possible stable configurations and constitute the "inherent structures" of the system. The crystal is described in terms of rigid molecules with Coulombic and atom-atom interactions.

The crystalline structure of isotactic polyallylcyclopentane

European Polymer Journal, 1972
Abstract The crystalline structure of isotactic polyallylcyclopentane has been examined. Since there are 3.42 ± 0.01 monomeric units per pitch, the helical symmetry is very near to s(24/7)I and the helices are packed in a terragonal unit ceil ( a = 20.30 ± 0.05 A , c = 47.40 ± 0.12 A ).

Hydrogels with Crystalline or Liquid Crystalline Structure

Macromolecular Rapid Communications, 2002
The formation of ordered structure in hydrogels derived from copolymers of hydrophilic and hydrophobic monomers with crystalline or liquid-crystalline moieties is reviewed. The role of water in the formation of ordered structure and its influence on the thermal and mechanical properties of hydrogels are clarified.

Structure of crystalline actin sheets

Nature, 1980
Although actin is one of the most abundant proteins found in nature, little detailed information about its molecular structure is available beyond the amino acid sequence. Electron microscopy of negatively stained filaments combined with three-dimensional image reconstruction techniques have revealed the overall size and shape of the actin monomer at ...

Crystalline Structures of Alginic Acids

Nature, 1970
WE have recently obtained X-ray diffraction photographs from orientated samples of alginic acid preparations in which the ratio of mannuronic acid to guluronic acid was known. The purified unorientated material was supplied by Dr A. Haug, and our results form the basis for structure determinations of polymannuronic acid and polyguluronic acid ...

Structure of crystalline methyl-chymotrypsin

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1972
Alpha-chymotrypsin, methylated specifically at the Nδ2-position of His-57, crystallizes isomorphously with the native enzyme. This finding enabled us to determine the structure of methyl-chymotrypsin utilizing the phase information of tosyl-chymotrypsin.

Macromolecular structure and liquid crystallinity

Faraday Discussions of the Chemical Society, 1985
The relationship between low-molar-mass or monomeric liquid crystals and polymeric liquid crystals is explored by examining the historical development of experimental and theoretical aspects of the latter materials. Polymeric liquid crystals are initially contrasted with conventional, non-mesogenic, flexible polymer chains (random coils), and then ...

Crystalline Plasticity and Structured Deformations

2004
The connection between the geometrical changes at small length scales in single crystals and their macroscopic response has been the subject of extensive experimental studies. In (Deseri and Owen (2000)), experimental evidence that points to a connection between hardening behavior of single crystals undergoing single slip and changes in the separation ...

The crystalline structure of zircon

Mineralogical Magazine and Journal of the Mineralogical Society, 1926
In a proper recently published by Prof. Vegard is contained an analysis of the structure of the zircon group of crystals, which belong to the tetragonal holohedral class, the axial ratio being approximately a : c = 1 : 0.656.As the present work was completed when the above paper appeared, it is interesting to find that the principal deductions ...
