Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Effect of dopant loading and calcination conditions on structural and optical properties of ZrO2 nanopowders doped with copper and yttrium

open access: yesMaterials Research Express
Undoped, Cu and/or Y doped ZrO _2 nanopowders were synthesized with Zr, Y, and Cu nitrates using a co-precipitation approach. Their structural and optical properties were examined regarding dopant content (0.1–8.0 mol.% of CuO and 3–15 mol.% of Y _2 O _3

Bimetallic 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetates EU(III) and GD(III): Composition, Structure, and Luminescent Properties

open access: yesInorganics
The possibility of obtaining different structural types for gadolinium–europium heterometallic complexes by implementing the “structural type memory” effect is described. A series of seven Eu(III)/Gd(III) compounds with 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetate, having

Growth of Thin Oxidation-Resistive Crystalline Si Nanostructures on Graphene

open access: yes, 2018
We report the growth of Si nanostructures, either as thin films or nanoparticles, on graphene substrates. The Si nanostructures are shown to be single crystalline, air stable and oxidation resistive, as indicated by the observation of a single ...

Sustainable Synthesis of Bio‐Based Magnetic and Conductive Wood for Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A wood‐based magnetic and conductive material called Magwood (MW), capable of blocking almost 99.99% of electromagnetic waves (in the X‐band frequency range), is synthesized using a simple, solvent‐free process. MW is lightweight, resists water, and is flame‐retardant, making it a promising alternative for shielding electronics. The rapid proliferation

Coupled structural and magnetic properties of ferric fluoride nanostructures: part II, a Monte-Carlo Heisenberg study

open access: yes, 2010
We present a numerical study of the magnetic structure of nanostructured iron fluoride, using the Monte-Carlo-Metropolis simulated annealing technique and a classical Heisenberg Hamiltonian with a superexchange angle dependence.

Distribution of Electrical Resistivity in Single Carbon Fiber Filaments and Its Correlation With Tensile Modulus

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A statistical framework is applied to quantify the distribution of electrical resistivity among individual filaments of two commercially available carbon fiber types. Correlations between filament resistivity, tensile modulus, and diameter are examined and complemented by TEM analysis to provide new insight into filament‐level variability relevant for ...
