Data science skills for referees: I Biological X-ray crystallography [PDF]
Since there is now a growing wish by referees to judge the underpinning data for a submitted article it is timely to provide a summary of the data evaluation checks required to be done by a referee. As these checks will vary from field to field this article focuses on the needs of biological X-ray crystallography articles, which is the predominantly ...

Dual biomimetic active sites, i.e., mononuclear {ZnII(L)(H2O)} and dinuclear {L2ZnII(CHO2)(OH)ZnIIL2}, have been successfully intergrated into a metal–organic cage, Zn20‐MOC. These two different active sites in Zn20‐MOC catalyze different steps of cascade trimerization of 1,2‐diaminocyclohexane. The mononuclear {ZnII(L)(H2O)} site catalyzes the initial

This work develops a novel and highly efficient MoS2/Ni3S2 catalyst toward hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) for the anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer. During HER, the MoS2 on the electrode surface undergoes an oxidative dissolution and is redeposited as amorphous MoOx.

Phase signal definition for electromagnetic waves in X-ray crystallography [PDF]
Diffracted X-ray waves in crystals have relative phases regarding the mathematical format used to describe them. A forward propagating wave can be defined with either negative or positive time evolution, i.e. kr - wt or $wt - kr. Physically measurable quantities are invariant with respect to the choice of definition.

Incoherent x-ray scattering in single molecule imaging
Imaging of the structure of single proteins or other biomolecules with atomic resolution would be enormously beneficial to structural biology. X-ray free-electron lasers generate highly intense and ultrashort x-ray pulses, providing a route towards ...

Organic Photo‐Responsive Piezoelectric Materials Based on Pyrene Molecules for Flexible Sensors
An organic, pyrene‐based non‐centrosymmetric crystal, PyPT, is introduced, showcasing excellent piezoelectric behavior with a high‐output electrical signal, rapid response time, and a substantial piezoelectric coefficient. The piezoelectric sensors demonstrate the ability to recognize physical sound characteristics ‐ such as amplitude, frequency, and ...

Configuration and Charge Dynamics of Defect‐Cluster‐Dipoles in CaTiO3 for Enhanced Permittivity
In La‐doped CaTiO3, the clustering of La ion and Ca vacancies is clearly observed and the configuration of such defect‐cluster is validated. Combining photoelctronic and dielectric spectroscopy enables the dielectric relaxation process with the charge transfer routes.

Exact Crystalline Structure Recovery in X-ray Crystallography from Coded Diffraction Patterns [PDF]
X-ray crystallography (XC) is an experimental technique used to determine three-dimensional crystalline structures. The acquired data in XC, called diffraction patterns, is the Fourier magnitudes of the unknown crystalline structure. To estimate the crystalline structure from its diffraction patterns, we propose to modify the traditional system by ...
