Unveiling an Alternative Mechanism for Lewis Basic Selenium as a C─H Hydrogen Bond Catalyst and Its Application in the Halogenation of Arenes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates an unconventional mechanism in Lewis basic selenium‐catalyzed electrophilic halogenation, where in situ oxidation of selenourea by the halogen source generates hypervalent Se‐imidazolium species. These intermediates function as hydrogen‐bond catalysts to activate N‐haloamide reagents, enabling efficient and mild halogenation of ...

Chloromethoxytrityls: Tuning the SOMO Level of Stable Luminescent Radicals

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
In this work, we use chlorine and methoxy groups to control the singly occupied molecular orbital level of triarylmethyl radicals within a wide range of 1.8 eV and establish structure‐properties relationships between the substituents and photophysical properties of triarylmethyl radicals. Abstract Luminescent radicals are of significant recent interest

Divergent Synthesis and Crystal Engineering of Room‐Temperature Phosphorescent Carbonyl‐Bridged Triphenylamines

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Solid state packing of triphenylamine derivatives is modulated by the variation of aryl bridges, endowing a wide diversity of luminescence properties. Closely packed, parallel structures induce room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) dominated spectra with long RTP lifetimes (τPh), while nonparallel, more spaced motifs result in competitive fluorescence
