Development of powder diffraction apparatus for small-angle X-ray scattering measurements [PDF]
A novel type of X-ray collimation system attached to commercial powder diffractometers makes the structural characterization of nanomaterials possible in a wide size range from

VRC01 broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) target the CD4-binding site (CD4BS) of the human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) envelope glycoprotein (Env). Unlike mature antibodies, corresponding VRC01 germline precursors poorly bind to Env.

Electron crystallography [PDF]
The idea of solving unknown crystal structures from experimental electron-diffraction intensities and high-resolution electron micrographs has remained a controversial topic in the 60 year history of electron crystallography. In this review it will be shown that the application of modern direct phasing techniques, familiar to X-ray crystallographers ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

The time revolution in macromolecular crystallography
Macromolecular crystallography has historically provided the atomic structures of proteins fundamental to cellular functions. However, the advent of cryo-electron microscopy for structure determination of large and increasingly smaller and flexible ...

Smart Nanogels as Enzyme‐Driven Nanomotors for Navigating Viscous Physiological Barriers
Two families of urease‐powered nanomotors (NMs), with and without a p‐(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (p‐HEMA) shell, have been successfully prepared. Both types exhibit effective motion in highly viscous synovial fluid media at low urea concentrations (25 mM).

Crystal structure of rhodopsin bound to arrestin by femtosecond X-ray laser. [PDF]
G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) signal primarily through G proteins or arrestins. Arrestin binding to GPCRs blocks G protein interaction and redirects signalling to numerous G-protein-independent pathways.

The storage of hydrogen is considered as the bottleneck in the implementation of portable fuel cell power generating systems. The necessary experimental studies to discover and develop appropriate storage materials are always time-limited.

This work describes a novel approach to obtain composite submicrometric structures of nickel hexacyanoferrate integrating trigonal selenium with the aim of enhancing the catalytic efficiency in oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Interestingly, the nanostructures undergo a cube‐to‐sphere transition that optimizes surface properties, leading to superior ...
