Grain Boundary Scars and Spherical Crystallography

open access: yes, 2003
We describe experimental investigations of the structure of two-dimensional spherical crystals. The crystals, formed by beads self-assembled on water droplets in oil, serve as model systems for exploring very general theories about the minimum energy ...

Characterization of Aptamer-Protein Complexes by X-ray Crystallography and Alternative Approaches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Aptamers are oligonucleotide ligands, either RNA or ssDNA, selected for high-affinity binding to molecular targets, such as small organic molecules, proteins or whole microorganisms.

Structural and functional analysis of Bacillus sarcosine oxidase and its activity toward cyclic imino acids

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Sarcosine oxidase from Bacillus sp. (SoxB) recognizes l‐proline (l‐Pro), d‐proline (d‐Pro), and l‐thioproline (l‐Tpr) as minor substrates. In this study, we measured their absorption spectra, determined the crystal structures of their enzyme complexes, and performed site‐directed mutagenesis of key residues.

Structural Characterization of Acidic M17 Leucine Aminopeptidases from the TriTryps and Evaluation of Their Role in Nutrient Starvation in Trypanosoma brucei

open access: yesmSphere, 2017
Leucine aminopeptidase (LAP) is found in all kingdoms of life and catalyzes the metal-dependent hydrolysis of the N-terminal amino acid residue of peptide or amino acyl substrates.

Molecular Packing Interaction in DNA Crystals

open access: yesCrystals, 2020
DNA crystallography provides essential structural information to understand the biochemical and biological functions of oligonucleotides. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the factors affecting crystallization of DNA to develop a strategy for ...

Insightful Improvement in the Design of Potent Uropathogenic E. coli FimH Antagonists

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2023
Selective antiadhesion antagonists of Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) type-1 Fimbrial adhesin (FimH) are attractive alternatives for antibiotic therapies and prophylaxes against acute or recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by UPECs.

What is a crystal? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Almost 25 years have passed since Shechtman discovered quasicrystals, and 15 years since the Commission on Aperiodic Crystals of the International Union of Crystallography put forth a provisional definition of the term crystal to mean ``any solid having ...

Cloning, expression, purification, and structural modeling of the Chandipura virus matrix protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol offers a guide for the cloning, expression, and purification of the Chandipura virus matrix protein using E. coli. It also includes a step‐by‐step procedure for cloning, expressing, and conducting fluorescence imaging of GFP‐fused Chandipura virus matrix protein in mammalian cell lines.
