Targeting Post‐Irradiation Thyroid Dysfunction: Electrospun Scaffolds As A Dual‐Action Approach for Antioxidant and Immune Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Radiation‐induced hypothyroidism follows head and neck radiotherapy due to oxidative stress and inflammation. Electrospun polycaprolactone scaffolds containing adenosine have potential to modulate thyroid repair. Scaffolds enhance thyrocyte proliferation, antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase and catalase, reduce senescence and apoptosis markers ...

Which Theory of Cerebrospinal Fluid Production and Absorption Do Neurosurgeons Teach to Medical Students? Survey from Medical Universities in Japan, 2022

open access: yesNeurologia Medico-Chirurgica
Several new studies have been conducted on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics. Our educational guidelines, the Model Core Curriculum for Medical University, recommend access to the best current information.

A Long‐Lived Human Neurovascular PENTA Culture Model Captures Incomplete Vascular Repair and Glia‐Associated Signaling After Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A long‐lived, five‐cell‐type human neurovascular (PENTA) model recreates vascular disorganization and incomplete repair after traumatic brain injury (TBI). By integrating endothelial, glial, neuronal, and immune components within a 3D scaffold, the platform enables time‐resolved analysis of neurovascular remodeling and provides a human‐relevant system ...

Altered brain fluid dynamics in spontaneous intracranial hypotension

open access: yesFluids and Barriers of the CNS
Background This prospective observational study explored alterations in brain fluid dynamics in patients with spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) and confirmed spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage, specifically addressing CSF clearance to ...

Multiplicity of cerebrospinal fluid functions: New challenges in health and disease

open access: yesCerebrospinal Fluid Research, 2008
This review integrates eight aspects of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulatory dynamics: formation rate, pressure, flow, volume, turnover rate, composition, recycling and reabsorption.

Design and Synthesis of Peptide‐Polyester Conjugates for Cell‐Mediated Scaffold Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work describes polycaprolactone (PCL)‐based biomaterials engineered to degrade in response to cell‐secreted proteases. A fast‐degrading peptide (Fast) sequence is integrated into a PCL conjugate backbone to produce a biomaterial that is selectively degraded by multiple cell types compared to its scrambled control (ScrFast).

Loss of aquaporin-4 impairs cerebrospinal fluid solute clearance through cerebrospinal fluid drainage pathways

open access: yesScientific Reports
The aquaporin-4 (AQP4) water channel is essential in neurofluid dynamics. AQP4 loss impairs solute exchange between the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and interstitial fluid (ISF).

Cerebrospinal Fluid Dynamics and Partial Pressure of Carbon Dioxide as Prognostic Indicators in Hypoxic–Ischemic Brain Injury Following Cardiac Arrest

open access: yesBrain Sciences
Changes in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics can have adverse effects on neuronal function. We hypothesized that patients with hypoxic–ischemic brain injury (HIBI) showing poor neurological outcomes after cardiac arrest (CA) would exhibit changes in CSF

A Fully Human Engineered Bone Niche With Endogenous Osteoclastogenesis Reveals Osteoclast‐Dependent Osteomimicry in Prostate Cancer Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A human 3D bone niche integrating osteoblasts and osteoclasts enables co‐culture with prostate cancer cell lines and patient‐derived organoids. The engineered niche (i) models aspects of reciprocal phenotypic regulation between osteoblasts and cancer cells, (ii) captures osteoclast‐enhanced osteomimicry in tumor cells, and (iii) establishes a ...

Embracing uncertainty in cerebrospinal fluid dynamics: A Bayesian approach to analysing infusion studies

open access: yesBrain and Spine
Introduction: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) infusion test analysis allows recognizing and appropriately evaluating CSF dynamics in the context of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), which is crucial for effective diagnosis and treatment.
