Dimeric and trimeric fusion proteins generated with fimbrial adhesins of uropathogenic Escherichia coli

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2016
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) is the main etiologic agent.

Non-Conscious Effect of Food Odors on Children’s Food Choices Varies by Weight Status

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2017
ObjectiveFood cues are omnipresent in the daily environment and may influence eating behavior even non-consciously. An increased reactivity to food cues, such as food odors, has been shown to be correlated with obesity in children.

NMR insights into the pre-amyloid ensemble and secretion targeting of the curli subunit CsgA [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
AbstractThe biofilms of Enterobacteriaceae are fortified by assembly of curli amyloid fibres on the cell surface. Curli not only provides structural reinforcement, but also facilitates surface adhesion. To prevent toxic intracellular accumulation of amyloid precipitate, secretion of the major curli subunit, CsgA, is tightly regulated.

Constitutive scientific generative agent (CSGA): Leveraging large language models for automated constitutive model discovery [PDF]

open access: hybridMachine Learning for Computational Science and Engineering
Abstract Data-driven approaches for constitutive modeling enable rapid, automated generation of models that predict a material’s mechanical response under load. Integrating theoretical knowledge into these approaches, which are then called grey-box approaches, can improve sample efficiency, extrapolation capability, and interpretability ...

Volatile Compounds in Pulses: A Review

open access: yesFoods, 2021
The worldwide demand for pulse-based products is increasing in the face of climate change, but their acceptability is limited due to the presence of off-flavours. Off-notes contribute to negative perceptions of pulses (beany notes).

Aggregated CsgA Does Not Form In‐Register Parallel Structures

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2018
Curli are hair‐like fibers used by the bacteria for adhesion and invasion, implicating them in the pathogenesis of bacterial disease. The main protein component of Curli is CsgA, and the main focus of our work is to characterize the structure of oligomerized CsgA.

Impact of Oral Microbiota on Flavor Perception: From Food Processing to In-Mouth Metabolization

open access: yesFoods, 2021
Flavor perception during food intake is one of the main drivers of food acceptability and consumption. Recent studies have pointed to the oral microbiota as an important factor modulating flavor perception.
